ORTHOTICS Is there a place for orthotics in bodybuilding or powerlifting? Many lifters, after years of lifting heavy weights on the squat, deadlift, and leg press, put excessive stress on the muscles and ligaments of the foot. This can stress an area on the bottom of the foot called the plantar fascia, and if the stress is great enough for an extended period of time, this can cause a condition called plantar fasciitis. If you get plantar fasciitis, orthotics that support the... arches of the feet can be helpful. If detected at an early age, a scoliosis chiropractic treatment program may help in preventing scoliosis from progressing in some cases and becoming worse that may lead to adult scoliosis. Often, the measured degree(s) of the scoliotic curvature can be improved over time by following a prescribed chiropractic treatment program.
Foam rolling is an excellent method of releasing tight muscles and trigger points. By applying pressure to specific points on your body, you can release trigger points which effectively improves muscle functionality, reduces pain, increases range of motion and flexibility, and improves muscle symmetry across the body. Trigger points are "knots" in the muscle, and when pressure is applied directly to them, will refer pain (this means you will feel pain in other parts of the b...ody when this trigger point is pressed). Trigger points are caused by a variety of our daily actions: overtraining a specific muscle, poor posture, stress, flexibility, etc. When foam rolling, slowly roll back and forth to warm up the muscle you are targeting. Eventually you will feel the muscle begin to "soften". Roll until you feel a hard or tender spot. Remain still on this trigger point applying as much pressure as needed. Stay on this spot for 3 minutes at a time before stretching. Continue applying pressure to the same trigger point, stretch, repeat. Spend no more than 15 minutes on a single area. Those sore spots should significantly less painful and shouldnt have less of a pain referral afterwards. Those muscles should also feel "free and light" afterwards. Best feeling!
