Cancer! It is a scary word to hear, but don't fret! Both cats and dogs can get cancer. If you see a lump don't be afraid to mention it. Catching it early and monitoring it is key. So if you see an abnormal growth from the edge of the nose to the tip of the tail, make an appointment to see if it needs to be removed before it spreads.

WOW! We love so many of our clients pre-ordering their food and medication for their furry babies. Pre-ordering your food or medication ahead of time helps us and helps you as supplies are still slow in these times. If you pre-ordered your food and you know it has arrived, please pick it up! We are overflowing in your food for your pets! Don't wait too long, it might get cold!

We are still talking about all that pain! Many of our furry companions are getting up there in age. However, as we all know with age comes with beauty.... and pain. A couple signs to look out for pain in both dogs and cats are reluctance to groom or being touched if they once loved it and/or slowly down or not moving as much. Imagine! Hurting so much you don't want your favorite area scratched or not being able to follow your favorite human to the kitchen to watch for food droppings. If you are concerned your pet is experiencing pain call us to have them seen at 416-654-0242.

This Weekend we had a continue education online conference and there’s an abundance of useful information. We are applying these new technique and knowledge into our practice and informing clients the signs to watch out for in early detection of something might be wrong with your fur baby. Let’s talk about cat in the wild What happens to a cat that is injured or feeling unwell? They will be killed. Domestic cats still have their natural instincts of a predator.... Cats will not show pain until it is unbearable and sometimes too late to reverse. To our wonderful crazy cat people and St. Clair Veterinary is one. Here are a few tips to follow and to pay attention to: - Let’s slow down and watch our bundle of fur for a moment. What is your kitty’s normal routine and behavior? Take notes. When there is something wrong and they are not feeling alright, they will break their routine or do something they never done before (e.g. Hide in a place, no greeting at the door, and/or urinate outside of the litter box). Sometimes their behavior changes like licking themselves excessively at a current spot, growl, hissing, starting a fight with his brother/sister, or scratches you when you pet their favorite spot. -STOP free feeding (unless the Veterinarian tells you otherwise) feed measurable amount so you can visually see if your pretty kitty is eating. When there is something wrong with them their appetite will decrease. You may not notice with free feeding how much or how little your cat may be eating compared to feeding a measurable amount - Let’s assist our painful arthritic companion as we all know age does a number on you. More cushions, less jumping, and less reaching for these old geezers. If they love your bed as much as you, buy pet stairs so they can still cuddle with you and steal your warmth without needing to jump up and down. Add some warmth into their old bones by offering fleecy blankets and more cushions to their bed. Oh, are they looking at that huge step to get into and out of their litter box? They probably tried numerous attempts to get into it but their springs in their back legs are not as oiled as their younger years. Switch to a low entrance litter pan. Cats don’t like to depend on diapers, but they need to go NOOOOWWW. Solve this by adding a litter box on every floor in your house so they don’t feel embarrassed for that accident which they did try to make it. See more
