The Importance of Remembering and the Danger if We Forget Remembering the past helps set the foundation for our present and future. Remembering is so important in shaping who we are and will come to be. We learn from one another through interaction, sharing, receiving social approval, resolving differences and finding joys in shared experience. ... Our memories are part of who we are. In his article, Remember - the Importance of Looking Back, Dan Cumberland reflects on the need to devote time to remembering because this helps to bring meaning to our lives. There are times in life when we question what matters. Sometimes we lack the emotional energy to move forward into the next chapter of our life. Remembering helps us realize all of the accomplishments of our past, how we’ve grown and that there is room for future change. I need to remind myself of the better story - not the one of never making it and never succeeding, but the story of how far I’ve come. - Cumberland In this short article a simple yet practical way is presented to rely on our memories to help us move forward when we struggle. Winter Burials A question which we are often asked at this time of year is if burials occur year round. Some cemeteries provide year-round interment (burial services) to their communities. Their staff is full time, and not seasonal, and they have the proper equipment to tend to this responsibility throughout the year. Typically, these are larger private or municipal cemeteries where hundreds of interment services are performed annually. ... Smaller, rural cemeteries may offer year-round interment, but typically this isn’t the case. In this instance, burials occur in the spring. The casket is kept in a secure location in the interim. The interment of a cremation urn, despite its smaller size, is also dependent on the cemetery where it will be placed at. Again, larger cemeteries provide year-round interment services and smaller rural or church cemeteries only provide interment in non-winter months. If you need further information about year-round interment of either a casket or an urn, please contact us. We have close working relationships with cemeteries in the area and based on our experience with them over the years, know what their capabilities are. St. George Funeral Home/CFHC Online

It’s Ok to Ask for Help Sometimes individuals who experience loss wish to be self-reliant. They don’t want to be a burden on others and want to maintain their independence. There is a fear they will appear weak, that they are struggling and aren’t in control. This may be ok if they’re coping well, but typically this isn’t the case. Some alone time and isolation, may be beneficial, but it’s important to remember that the support of others is essential at difficult times. ... Family and friends can help those who grieve in many ways such as providing companionship and being a source of motivation and inspiration. They can vet personal thoughts to see that we are thinking clearly. They can assist with tasks we are unable to perform alone. When grieving the loss of a loved one, although this is a personal journey, support will make what is a difficult passage, much easier. It’s ok to ask for help. St. George Funeral Home/CFHC Online

Remembrance Day Observance Today we remember them, who served our country in times of conflict. We pause and listen to the single bugle, as it plays the notes to Last Post. We stand in silence, in their memory. We are forever grateful for your sacrifice and we will never forget your legacy. Today we express our sympathy to all the families who have lost a loved one. We stand with you as you remember them.
