As more than 183,000 students and 10,000 teachers return to Catholic schools, we invite you to unite in prayer for courage and hope; for faith and peace of mind.... We call on our Blessed Mother to intercede on our behalf that all our children, families and staff will be safe and under the mantel of her protection. A novena consists of nine days of prayer and meditation asking God for special requests or petitions. Please join us in prayer August 28-September 5 as we offer a novena for Catholic education and a safe return to school. Today we celebrate the beginning of Catholic Education Week Please see an important message from our Assistant Superintendent, Mr. Paul Corrigan In the midst of everything going on in our world these days, I was moved to re-read a work by C.S Lewis, entitled Learning in War time. At the dawn of WWII, there was a discussion as to the value of education continuing during the upcoming time of crisis. Lewis points to three enemies of learning at this time, excitement,... frustration and fear. He challenges the reader to rise above them all, to respond courageously to the needs of others in the time of crisis. In our own way this year, we are learning in war time and it is appropriate for us to take some time to celebrate and be grateful for the gift of Catholic Education. In Alberta, we have the great privilege of being able to celebrate our faith openly and engage with our students on every aspect of what it is to truly be a human, we pray with our students and for our students as well as our communities. We are able to say in our Catholic Schools that each and every child is of infinite dignity, not because of what they have done, but because of who they are, made in the image and likeness of God, the Creator of all. We are able to teach our students not only to be good citizens, but to love each other as God first loved us. We promote academic excellence, not just for students to have a great career, but to be formed, virtuous human beings. We have our students look for Goodness, Truth and Beauty in all creation, and especially in each other. We are fed by our Sacraments and connected to our parishes and pastors. We are empowered to discuss with our students the small questions and the big ones, to celebrate who they are and what they can become. Albertas education system, public and Catholic, is second to none in the world, but I am proud of, I love, my Catholic School. Paul Corrigan Assistant Superintendent, Faith formation and Wellness Elk Island Catholic Schools.

The Lord is Risen Alleluia, Alleluia!!! My dear faithful friends, brothers and sisters in the Lord. What a beautiful and uplifting message to hear, particularly... during a time that no one earth has ever experienced or imagined. The Churches, the schools, the rinks, the playgrounds are empty and that is the troubling news. The tomb is also empty and that my friends, is the Good News of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. On Easter morning two thousand years ago our dear Lord Jesus overcame death and sin, once and for all, one time, for one and for all. This covid experience that we are all journeying through, together/apart, can seem rather perplexing in a variety of ways. Some examples include the inconvenience presented in obtaining a haircut, or groceries, the inability to be in proximity to our extended families, particularly if there is sickness, or even the potential of illness. This can be disorienting, distressing and very painful. Other contributing factors that amplify our present situation include, the general isolation of a people who God created to be in relationship with one another, the sense of the unknowing, the real or perceived fear that can evolve from the unknown. Only a few of the challenges that we all face together/apart, and they are indeed challenges. My friends, the tomb is empty, our Lord is Risen. He has overcome all temporal challenges in rising from the dead. He will prevail during this time of covid as well. Yes, we may have to endure the covid cross for some time yet. However, it gives me great peace to know that the Saviour of the world is in charge and that just as He has always prevailed, he will prevail over; (as St. Paul states in 2 Cor. 4, 17-18) this momentary affliction. Friends, I am a realist for sure, the challenge is real, but the Risen Lord overcomes all challenges, past, present and future. Yes, we do need to cooperate with His grace and the direction of the health and technical expertise He has blessed us with, but at the end of the day know this. The Lord is Risen, Alleluia, Alleluia. May our Risen Lord bless you and your beloved families during this most joyful of joyful seasons. The Light of the world has come into the world. There is nothing that can stop the Light. Amen. See more
Christ is risen! Alleluia! Alleluia! Let us allow the true hope and great love to be found in the resurrection of Jesus to flood our spirits with joy! Happy Easter. #SILCFamily #EasterJoy #HeIsRisen #LoveFirstLastAlways @EICSCatholic

Hey #SILCFamily we miss seeing you in the classroom, but we are doing our part to #FlattenTheCuve to keep us all healthy and safe. Pooh and Piglet have the right idea - its not recess orholiday time. Its time to stay home because its the right thing to do @EICSCatholic
New guidelines are now in place for how students will learn while in-school classes are cancelled. This approach was developed with a focus on the safety of our... staff and students, ensuring resources continue to flow to the education system and providing boards with the flexibility required to meet the unique needs of their students. Everyone in our education system has come together to chart a path forward as part of our COVID-19 response. We are all working towards the same goal - to provide the best possible learning situation for our students during this very challenging and unprecedented time. https://www.alberta.ca/release.cfm
The #SILCFamily would like to send a heartfelt THANK YOU to our school community for their patience as this week we have deployed our talented staff out to other EICS schools to support our colleagues as they work to get online learning ready for their students. We are all in this together. #FirstLastAlways
