Learn on The Lawn Friday, August 14 @ the St. James lawn 11:30-1:00... A Climate Action Parry Sound Supported Event You must unite behind the science. You must take action. You must do the impossible. Because giving up can never be an option. Greta Thunberg to the US Congress, Washington DC, 17 September 2019 Thunberg has often said that she wants the facts to be the focus of her campaigning for action on climate change. She wants world leaders to pay closer attention to science. Theres a lot of information out there. Many of our daily actions have an impact on our environment (e.g., our modes of transportation, food choices, energy use, the clothing that we wear and wash). This vast amount of information can be overwhelming. Often, many of us can feel like we dont know enough about the facts to take a stand or to engage our politicians in dialogue. On Friday, August 14, you are invited to spend some intentional time reading about Climate Change and our impact on the Earth. We will have a small bookshelf set up on the lawn with magazines and books to borrow...or simply bring your own books..or podcasts. Lets learn togetherbut separatelysocially distanced on our own blankets/chairs. Stay for the whole time or just pop by. Please share. (Pam)

What's happening at St. James and Mary Street this week? We had Triemstra Brothers Tree Service come in and cut down the maple tree in the yard (James Street) because it was a hazard. AND we also have Midhurst Roofing here working to fix our roof. Lots going on around here even through being temporarily closed!

Since the beginning of the Covid-19 lockdown, the Rev. Monica Moore has been sending out daily e-blasts to people in the St. James community. These e-blasts usually contain a prayer, a reflection, and thoughtful questions for us to ponder during this uncertain time. Once a week, I have been gathering peoples thoughts and putting them together in a "Zine"/ newsletter that gets sent out on Mondays. It has been amazing to have this opportunity to write, listen, share stories ...& pictures, and reflect. If anyone is interested in receiving the e-blasts and the Zine, please contact Kaity at [email protected]. If you are interested in contributing to the Zine, please send your pictures, poetry, or thoughts to [email protected] Some questions to ponder during this time: If you are at home, are there any new rituals that you have developed around this change of lifestyle? What are your hopes? What are your fears? What do you hunger for today? What is feeding you today? Where do you experience boredom? Where do you experience the creative spark? (Pam)

Hello to all our followers! We here at Mary Street Centre and St. James United Church are hoping that we may be able to get some help from our community with something. We are trying to collect some old(working) or refurbished computers to give to the seniors in town who do not have access to a computer/phone and are lonely and feeling disconnected to the community and their families. If you have one and are willing to part with it please let us know via message, email at [email protected], or phone 705-746-8553 Thank you so much everyone!

Hi there! Some of us have created a Facebook group as another way for people in the St. James faith community to stay connected during this "pause" Its not our intention to fill your already busy newsfeeds. Its simply a place to share links ( lots of worship gatherings are available online to participate in), look after each other ( e.g., does anyone need something dropped off?), and keep each other in our minds and hearts in community. Here is the link

We will be handing out take-out lunches next Tuesday and Thursday. The back door off the parking lot w...ill be opened at noon on those days, and will remain open until 1:00, or until the food runs out. Donations will be gratefully accepted, as happens at our usual community meals. We are committed to offering nutritious meals for the people who regularly attended our food programs. We are also willing to deliver some meals to people who cannot get to the church, but are still in need. Please contact Monica with names and addresses. We ask that we all work together as a community to mitigate the effect of this crisis on vulnerable families. Therefore we have closed our office to the general... public at this time in order to maintain the safety of the environment. If you are looking to drop off a non-perishable food donation please use our side door which has a drop off slot. Our Food Bank is gearing up to meet increased demand as peoples lives & economic welfare are disrupted. If you are considering sending a financial donation so that we can purchase food you can do so on our website at: https://parrysoundharvestshare.com Those attending food bank tomorrow PLEASE DRESS WARMLY. We will be open from 9am - 3pm. We will only be allowing a few people into the food bank space at a time. Therefore you may have to wait outside due to respecting social distancing practices. We have been working hard to prepare pre-packaged food bags all day & will continue to do so to make sure we can meet the current need. If you have any of the following symptoms: Fever, Cough, or Shortness of Breath PLEASE SEND SOMEONE to pick up your food on your behalf. You can call us to make alternative arrangements if necessary Neighbours, friends, please take account of any vulnerable people in your vicinity that may not be able to get out or will be at risk & will be in need of food and supplies. This is an opportunity to care for one another & be our very best. We will get there sooner if we all act together.
