On December 8, we celebrate the #Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary. Why do we celebrate? Because it is a gift that Mary said "yes" to God and bore his Son, Jesus! #prayforus #immaculateconception

Friday, August 14 Gren Poole offered by Karol Smith Women Vital to Seminaries: Ouellet This is the title of an article appearing in the Catholic Register (May 3 2020). Canadian Cardinal Marc Ouellet, prefect of the Congregation for Bishops, was interviewed about the role of women in seminaries and seminary formation. The interview was published April 24 by Vatican News. The Canadian Cardinal has often advocated for increasing the role of women in the church. As a 2018 Synod of Bishops, he supported further integration of women into ecclesial life. Here are several direct, impactful opinions stated by Cardinal Ouellet in the article. The Church must radically change how priests interact with women, starting by injecting more female voices into priestly formation at seminaries. During formation, it is important that there is contact, discussion, exchanges with women. Having women on seminary formation teams as professors and counsellors would help a candidate interact with women in a natural way, isolating future priests from women is never a good idea, and is no preparation for them entering ministry. I think that for a priest, learning to relate to women in the environment of formation is a humanizing factor that promotes equilibrium in the mans personality and affectivity. It is necessary to develop respect for women and the recognition of their charisms, as well as their equal integration in the life of society and the Church. The complete article can be found in The Catholic Register, May 3 2020. www.catholic register.org

Please continue to pray for each other as well as for good sense in all levels of church and government. Please wear a mask when you are out to protect yourselves and as a sign of our care and stewardship for each other in Gods kingdom. Now that we have re-opened the church, we are confident that we are doing all that we can do to keep our people safe, that we are following all the protocols of both the Diocese and the province. We have shared these protocols with all who come to Mass and to the office. The office will remain closed until we have further direction from the Diocese and then, when we feel we can meet all the protocols laid out by the Diocese. If you wish to meet with a staff member, please make an appointment by calling the office. The Parish staff and I have kept busy during the past 3 1/2 months. We contacted about 100 people to see how they were doing. We upgraded the office space and meeting room and I must say they look spectacular. I painted two sections and will expect to see a large plaque outlining my involvement - just teasing - as I dont know where we would hang it!!! I signed up for a couple courses on addiction last fall and completed three university courses in the middle of June. They were very interesting and relatively easy. The Parish Finance Committee will meet shortly to review our 2020 budget. We applied, collectively with the Diocese, to the Government for funds allocated for assistance related to decreased income due to COVID-19. We are thankful to the parishioners who have continued with their donations to support the operations of our church. I should not sign off without saying how much the parish team has done to get us ready and to keep us safe during these strange and difficult times. Our prayers continue for all of you in every way and every day. Warm and blessed regards Fr Dan

Rayjon Summer News; Trail & Ale Run/Walk Virtual Fundraiser Like all other organizations, teams & groups, Rayjon has had to cancel all fundraising events that were organized for much of 2020 due to the restrictions of the Covid 19 pandemic. This necessitated heightened budgeting measures in supporting our programs in Haiti & the Dominican Republic but the restrictions have really stimulated innovative use of funds. But here at home, we have missed the events, the supporters ...and the connections we have made and enjoyed over the years. Its time to get out, albeit within our social bubble, and join together in a new way to support Rayjon. Trail & Ale, our new summer fundraiser, features a 5K or 7K run or walk done anytime from August 8-22, but done virtually. Dont let the term virtual or those #hashtags get you down. All the information is beautifully presented on Rayjons website, www.rayjon.org/trailandale; theres even a small video to explain the virtual part. But here are the basics. You register yourself, or a team of friends, via the lead on Rayjons website. You pay the registration fee. Then because this IS a fundraiser, reach out to your friends & family to sponsor you online via www.raceroster.com. Trust me the website is VERY user-friendly. You pick up your official T-shirt & package and a Refined Fool beer August 8th between 12:00 noon and 7pm at the Refined Fool midtown, 1326 London Rd, Sarnia. For the out-of-towners, we will mail your T-shirt (sorry, not the beer) You run or walk when you choose, where you choose, with whom you choose, any time between August 8 & 22. Only 5K - 7K. 14 days. Easy-peasy There are prizes. Lots of prizes! See the website for prize categories. So get ready to get out and #RunforRayjon at #TrailandAle! Thanks from Rayjon
