A ribbon to thank you. For each and every member of the Extendicare in Kapuskasing, today we hang a ribbon to show you our support. This ribbon signifies all th...e gratitude we have for each of you. We recognize you are working hard and relentlessly, understand that you are likely exhausted, and at time even feel discouraged. We want to show you that we appreciate your hard work, and we stand by you. You continue to awe us with your dedication to the residents and your colleagues, and we cannot thank you enough for having the courage to be heroes. . To all the administrative staff, environmental services and housekeeping, dietary staff, to maintenance labourer and healthcare workers, and everyone who works at Extendicare, this ribbon is for you! We have placed our ribbon out to say thank you and extend our heartfelt appreciation. We hope other community members will join us too. Please stay safe and let’s continue to show kindness to one another. We are all in this together. To those who want to join us, we invite you to hang a ribbon of any color (pick a color of the rainbow) and hang it proudly. You can hang it on your door, your tree, your railing, your mailbox, your window and be creative. The rainbow represents solidarity, hope and gratitude. Let’s make this community colorful! See more

As the Food Bank prepares for the winter season, they have always relied on the generosity of our community to help fill the shelves to serve their clients. The... annual Food Drive in the Circle this time of the year has always been a vital fund raiser and shelf filler for the Food Bank. However, due to COVID, they are unable to hold this annual event. But, they still need your help! So the Food Bank is reaching out to you for your amazing generosity!! The best way to help is with a monetary donation. They are able to purchase all of the food in bulk and on sale. They know what to buy to fulfill the needs of their clients. You can give your donation on the Kapuskasing Food Bank Facebook page, or mail a cheque to the Kapuskasing Food Bank, 4B Sheppard Ave, Kapuskasing, ON., P5N 1V8, or place your donation in an envelope and drop it off at their building. If you would like to donate food, please bring it to the building on Sheppard Ave and place it on the front porch. If you have any questions, we invite you to call at #705-335-5414 and leave a message and they will return your call very quickly!

Congratulations to our intrepid Newfoundland mountain hikers! Cynthia Haines-Turner, Valerie Roebuck and Mona Edwards decided to climb Gros Morne Mountain to ra...ise funds for PWRDF’s Ride for Refuge, in support of St Jude Family Projects in Uganda. The trio was prepared for a 10-hour hike, but says Cynthia, I underestimated how arthritis has affected my range of motion so I couldn't lift my leg up very high. I took two steps to my sister's one which meant the trip took us much longer than we had anticipated. The view at the top is beyond breathtaking, says Cynthia. I put my PWRDF socks on my hands as I was too tired to do anything else but I wanted a picture at the summit with the logo!" By the time the hikers returned to the base, the sun was setting. The final 4+ km of the hike were rough trails, and they would be in darkness. They had just enough battery power on their cell phones to get them to about 40 minutes from the exit! Fortunately, my husband had called Parks Canada and two of the sweetest young women on the face of the planet came in to get us with flashlights and water! The entire trip clocked in at about 15 hours, 33,834 steps for a total of 22.5 km. Cynthia says they could could barely walk the next day, but the day after, Sunday, they were a little more mobile and Cynthia, an ordained deacon, was able to lead worship. Safe to say that next year, it will be a different project for Ride for Refuge. A big shout out to Parks Canada for their amazing response. The best part is that Cynthia, Valerie and Mona have raised $2,715 for St. Jude’s.
