Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart was born on January 27, 1756! He was an engaged Freemason. The artist is considered the greatest musical genius of all time. Although Mozart's success is often associated with his innate talent, the composer told one of his biographers that his success was mostly the result of hard work: "They are wrong if they think I had acquired my skills effortlessly. I assure you, dear friend, that no one has sacrificed as much time to learn composition as I have.... There is no known composer whose works I had not studied carefully. Mozart's music accompanied Chopin from his youth. The direct influence of Mozart's music on Chopin's work can be seen in the Variations in B flat major op. 2 on the theme of Là ci darem la mano, composed in the second year of study with Józef Elsner. The variations, first performed in Vienna in 1829, made Chopin's name famous. After leaving his country, Chopin often listened to performances of Mozart's works, eg the Jupiter Symphony. He played the compositions of Mozart himself in public, for example on May 15, 1848 in England during a concert in front of Queen Victoria and Prince Albert. During private meetings, he also performed compositions by Mozart and Beethoven. In 1846, when he was working on the Nocturnes op. 62 and the sonata op. 65., it was Mozart's scores that he asked Marie de Rozières to send him urgently. Before dying, Chopin expressed the wish that Mozart's "Requiem" accompany him on his last journey. See more
