St. Peter's Anglican Church 15.11.2020

It's a sign! After years of planning, we have finally begun installing our new electronic sign at St. Peter's. We look forward to sharing messages of love, hope and peace as well as those informing the community of upcoming worship and other events. When folks drive past St. Peter’s building at nightfall, this sign will literally serve as a light in the darkness.

**Update Friday, September 25: In response Manitoba’s chief provincial public health officer moving the province up to a code orange classification, our parish leadership believes that the right thing to do is to postpone in-building worship. We know how disappointing this is for those who were planning to attend. The good news is that the building is now ready to open when the time is right, and we will resume those plans when that time comes.** St. Peter's is offering in-b...uilding worship with Eucharist this Sunday, September 27 at 4 p.m. for the first time since March. If you are planning to attend, please register by emailing [email protected]. Here are some things you need to know before attending: https://stpetersanglican.ca//481-holy-eucharist-at-st-pete. It won't be quite as restrictive as the cartoon below, but we do have to follow diocesan and government guidelines! St. Peter's will also continue to offer online worship every Sunday at 10:30 a.m. Please contact our church office at [email protected] to obtain the Zoom information. The Anglican Church of Canada asked our rector Rev. Canon Donna Joy, among others, to submit a paper on our worship practices during the past six months. The collection of submissions will be reviewed by the National Church Faith, Worship and Ministry Committee, but you can read Donna's paper now on our website: https://stpetersanglican.ca//463-diocesan-response-to-covi

St. Peter’s has had to cut down the dead birch tree in front of the parish building. If you are looking for some mulch or clean fill, head down to 755 Elm St and help yourself! Anything left a week from now will be hauled to a 4R Depot.

1 Peter 5:7 Cast all your anxiety on him, because he cares for you. Transition, whether physical (as in childbirth) or societal, is always a process in which we are letting go of one way of being, and opening ourselves to the birthing of something new. Even when we’re transitioning into something positive, this can involve surges of fear and uncertainty, which often unleash varying degrees of anxiety. We are creatures of habit, so this is almost inevitable when we are requir...ed to shift from that which has become familiar to an unknown, unfamiliar realm. After safely protecting ourselves from the COVID-19 virus by isolating at home, there is (for many) fear and uncertainty as we transition into becoming a little more exposed to the physical presence of others in our communities. I suspect there is, within us, a mixture of excitement over the idea of reconnecting, and at the same time, fear. Over the past couple of weeks I’ve heard many stories of people feeling anxious as they’ve been out in public where the perception is that others are not adequately cautious about physical distancing. Transition from isolation to a slightly more communal way of living offers these kinds of challenges and it is important to acknowledge this. After safely protecting ourselves from the COVID-19 virus by worshiping exclusively through Zoom, it is challenging to explore and prepare for the numerous safety measures that are necessary as we prepare to (possibly) transition from the virtual experience to worshiping physically together. In partnership with our leadership teams, we are proceeding with extreme caution as we take into consideration the necessary details that will ensure health and safety for all. This is a work in progress and we will keep you informed as plans become confirmed. Indeed, within our shared life at St. Peter’s, our day-to-day lives, and beyond, this is a time of transition. I encourage you to recognize the underlying fears and uncertainties that accompany this experience, along with the anxiety it can unleash, and be good to yourselves. Reach out and ask for help if you feel the need to do so. Faith is not about masking the challenges in life with a superficial state of joy, it is about naming them, calling on God to make His/Her face to shine upon you in the midst of them, discovering comfort and strength from that gift, and praising God because of that ever-present gift. Cast all your anxiety on him, because he cares for you. Love and Blessings, The Reverend Canon Donna Joy
