St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church Corunna Statement from Session on MP Marilyn Gladu’s comments on BILL C-6 In Late January, Sarnia Lambton MP Marilyn Gladu presented a petition in the House of Commons calling on the government to amend or withdraw Bill C-6 legislation aimed at criminalizing conversion therapy. The Petition had 169 signatures. Gladu stated This petition is supported by the majority of the 91 churches in my riding,... The Session of St Andrews did not support the petition. Gladu had mailed a copy of the petition to St Andrews in late 2020; however, the session threw out the petition without responding to it believing it was not appropriate for the MP to be soliciting this type of political support through the church community. Now that Gladu has made this public statement, we would like to make it clear that St Andrews has in no way supported Gladu’s petition or her opposition to Bill C-6. The session would also like to apologize for how long it has taken us to respond to this issue; however, due to the current COVID pandemic and the lockdown that has been in place, we were not able to coordinate a response to this any sooner. We want all people to feel welcome to worship at St Andrews and we strive to keep politics out of our worship and out of our church.
