Is your hot tub or pool giving you eye and skin irritation? This is most commonly from one of two reasons: 1 pH imbalance test your current pH level, and add Bioguard’s Lo ‘N Slo if pH is high and Balance Pak 200 is pH is low, as needed 2 Contaminant build-up creating chloramines - add Bioguard’s BurnOut or BurnOut 35 to oxidize contaminants, and add Pool Tonic, Natural Clarifier or Polysheen Blue to enhance filtration... To prevent skin or eye irritation, keep your pool water balanced, shock weekly, and backwash the filter when needed!

Sometimes hot tubs start to stink! Odours are most commonly caused by contaminants left in the water by bathers, so with higher use comes higher levels of odour. This is normal, and easy to deal with: Bring us a water sample for a free analysis to determine current water balance, adjust accordingly... Add SpaGuard’s Spa Lite to oxidize contaminants Add Brominating Concentrate or Chlorinating Concentrate to boost low sanitizer levels Or talk to us in store, we’re happy to help!

Soaking in the warm weather while it lasts

Have you checked your pool jets recently? Return jets should be pointed down and away from the skimmer. This allows for proper circulation and fewer dead spots, as well as for the debris and contaminants on the surface to be properly cleaned by the pump. Stay tuned for more tips!

Is your pool water foaming? Using a non-foaming algaecide like BioGuards Banish is the first step to preventing foam, but it can also be caused by contaminants like soap, oil, or body lotions. With proper circulation foam should dissipate naturally, but for more immediate results apply BioGuards Anti Foam, and Pool Tonic to remove contaminants that are causing the foam.... Summer evenings are best spent by the pool

Are you testing your pool and spa water regularly? Using at home water tests a few times a week is important for maintaining balanced pool water, most importantly pH and sanitizer levels, and this should be done even more frequently for spas. Additionally, bring a water sample to us at St. Lawrence Pools for a free water test analysis at pool opening, closing, and every four to six weeks during the season to keep your pool in check!... Did you know that heat and sunlight contribute greatly to chlorine loss? Contaminants in the water are the most common source of chlorine demand, but the high UV Index and temperatures coming from a heat wave like this can make it difficult to maintain the suggested minimum sanitizer residual of 1-3ppm. If you feel like you are constantly adding more chlorine to no avail, ensure that your stabilizer level is at the appropriate level of 30-50ppm. In the middle of a heat wave like this, your pool is likely losing water much faster than normal due to evaporation and increased use.
