This development could be transformative for Old East: Congratulations to Goodwill and London Intercommunity Health Centre! Thanks are due to the owners whose generosity enabled this positive change and to our federal government for providing funding. St.Paul's Social Services relies on LIHC to provide health care for some of the most vulnerable people in our community.

Sometimes, during the Advent season, Christians make the mistake of clinging too hard on the idea of a Jesus that looks like them and only like them. This year,... I've come across some incredible images of Mary and Child that can help remind us that Jesus did not just come for one niche group, he came for everyone. See more

"We are at our best when we serve others." Years ago, anthropologist Margaret Mead was asked by a student what she considered to be the first sign of civilisati...on in a culture. The student expected Mead to talk about fishhooks or clay pots or grinding stones. But no. Mead said that the first sign of civilisation in an ancient culture was a femur (thighbone) that had been broken and then healed. Mead explained that in the animal kingdom, if you break your leg, you die. You cannot run from danger, get to the river for a drink or hunt for food. You are meat for prowling beasts. No animal survives a broken leg long enough for the bone to heal. A broken femur that has healed is evidence that someone has taken time to stay with the one who fell, has bound up the wound, has carried the person to safety and has tended the person through recovery. Helping someone else through difficulty is where civilisation starts. Be civilised, be safe, be cautious.. be in care. We are at our best when we serve others. -- Amitabh Bachchan art | Christi Belcourt

Today my pastor shared this special prayer that I thought was very appropriate and wanted to pass it along.

"We who lived in concentration camps can remember the men who walked through the huts comforting others, giving away their last piece of bread. They may have be...en few in number, but they offer sufficient proof that everything can be taken from a man but one thing: the last of the human freedoms -- to choose one's attitude in any given set of circumstances, to choose one's own way." - Viktor Frankl Photo source: Wikimedia Commons

This is not a complete solution; safe and affordable housing, a basic income and other supporting services will be needed, buy this is a huge step toward ending tragic and senseless deaths.

Update; Update; Update! We are at 50 masks so far: we REALLY NEED Masks for kids and for youth. They go in a flash! Thanks to all our dedicated Sewers! St. Paul's Social Services presents: The 1000 Mask Challenge! We want to introduce to you The 1000 Mask Challenge: this is a very special project to help keep our clients and community protected. Reusable cloth masks are the environmentally friendly alternative to disposable masks and when washed thoroughly in hot, soapy wate...r can be used many, many times! We plan to distribute the masks over the next few months. Masks are becoming necessary for bus travel and in all (public?) indoor spaces here in London and many of our clients will find it difficult to afford masks on top of their other household costs. Here is the challenge: If you have material remnants (used cotton sheets and tea towels also work well), thread or thin elastic: * sew as many masks as you can on your own, with friends or family, or * donate material to us for others to sew. We can provide you with a basic pattern and there are many other patterns online. So will you accept this 1000 Mask Challenge? This would be a great project for your family or a group of friends to work on. If you want to be part of the 1000 Mask Challenge either making masks or donating material, send us an email at [email protected] We look forward to hearing from you! Sew with God. See more

Post Secondary students are getting some negative press these days. We know why... We also want you to know that some wonderful young Western Sorority Sisters thought of the needs of other people in our community and brought a generous and welcome donation of food to St. Paul's Social Services Food Bank yesterday- Well done! You are setting a wonderful example of selflessness and caring.
