Yes, today I decided to start the weekend early and go out with our family on our annual #rideaucanal boat trip through the canal system. It’s a great adventure and I highly recommend it! Very few people know how much I love fishing, and today was my first time out this season! Within 3 minutes, no fish tale here, I had this beauty on the end of my line. For those clients with less than a green thumb or poor lighting, artificial plants are a great solution and look incredibly realistic! This 4’ clusia tree arrived today from @decorsveronneau and looks amazing! I styled it with a matte brown ceramic planter to complete the look, a wicker basket would look great but need to wait for shops to open, groan. Adding or reconfiguring windows is a huge game-charger for many renovations. In a new build its one of the first items you should decide as it guides so much of the design and should work with the home’s architectural style. In this kitchen we kept the window and sink location the same as the client liked the idea of looking out at her garden while washing up. A dramatic change was to replace the one awkwardly placed window with two windows on either side of the oven, creating symmetry and lots of light. We customized this island to have two purposes, a breakfast/lunch table and a work area complete with all the electrical/USB needs and drawers for files and office supplies. Beautiful and functional! I often think of how this basement project positively changed our client’s lives. We reclaimed this valuable, livable space by asking questions like: who was going to use this space, what did they want to use the space for, what needed storage and how did they want to feel in the space? The results-a warm, well organized family area where this family of 7 can spread out. Our design included a mini kitchen area for birthday parties and family gatherings where food could be sp...read out to watch their favourite sports game, an office, a tv area, a games area for LEGO and lots and lots of closed storage. The custom millwork worked perfectly with our client’s aesthetic. Sound damping ceiling tiles were selected to minimize noise transfer and easy to care for flooring made for a super kid-friendly zone! Sharing an office with my husband over the last few weeks has been challenging at times. Staggering Zoom meetings, permanent hair dents from wearing noise cancelling headphones and bandwidth problems. That aside, we have enjoyed lunch together every day and have gone for a 30 minute walk down to the lake. I know that we will eventually get back to our regular routine but in the meantime I’m loving our time together!
