Two new pieces from the ‘Dandelion’ series, exploring cultural value differences.

I’ve been busy working on a series examining our perception of dandelions. These symbols of childhood wishes are seen by some as an enemy to artificially manicured lawns. I find it interesting that these wild flowers that assist in the aeration of soil and provide food to wildlife can symbolize a threat to societal standards to some. It’s a question of values and perceptions. This is something I’ve been immersed in for awhile now as I navigate other cultures and attempt to view life with an understanding that everything I see is affected by my own cultural bias. I approach my artwork as a child, process and experimentally driven, painting in the moment, painting with an open heart for discovery.... blowing dandelions into the wind.
