Strawberry Tea, cucumber and egg sandwiches, scones with strawberry jam and cream and of course music from the Children’s Choir. Absolute perfection.

It is a feast of music this weekend in Oakville and Hamilton.....On Saturday evening and Sunday afternoon we have Masterworks of Oakville and Handel's Samson he...re at St. Andrew's. I got to hear some of the rehearsal with the orchestra last weekend and it is glorious. On Sunday evening we have the reception of the last volume of the St. John's Bible at the Cathedral of Christ the King with the Grand Philharmonic Choir and Leonard Bernstein's "The Chichester Psalms. Appropriately, the last volume is the Psalms and for this special event, all of the volumes will be on display. Here is a a sample of this beautiful work. Imagine how it will sound in the Cathedral of Christ the King? It begins at 7.00 p.m. See more

It is with great sadness that we at St. Andrew's announce the passing of Gregory (Greg) De Marchi, Medical Doctor, Deacon of the Church, and all round Renaissan...ce man. Greg had surgery earlier this month and passed away suddenly in his home on Thursday last week. Our condolences go out to his wife, Dr. Marianne Duemler and his five children: Joshua, Rachel, Paige, Naomi, and Sydney. Greg lived an adventurous and fascinating life beginning in his youth when he travelled to upper NY State to become a Trappist monk at the Abbey of Genesee. After leaving the Trappist's he went to Oxford, where he received his doctorate. Returning to Canada he studied at the University of Toronto and McMaster University where he received his medical education. He practised community family medicine at St. Michael’s Hospital, Toronto prior to becoming chief medical advisor to the Ontario provincial Ministry of Children and Youth Services. After his retirement he received his Masters in Theology from Regis College and was ordained a deacon for ministry in Archdiocese of Toronto, serving at St. Ignatius of Loyola Parish in Mississauga. Throughout his life’s journey he travelled and lectured extensively. He has authored many publications in various fields of endeavor. While lecturing in Japan he earned his sixth degree black belt in Jiu-jitsu. He had many other passions in life including language, art and restoration, and has mentored many young people in a very wide spectrum of vocations. His love for people and learning has instilled great values in his children and one hopes his legacy will continue to touch many lives. Greg and his family were members of St. Andrew's for many years. He delivered a series of lectures for us on Pope Francis call for a year of mercy that were outstanding and his workshops on meditation and contemplation were practical and presented us with insights into his own rich and deep spiritual life. Shortly after I came to the parish we went for breakfast one morning and after a long conversation that covered many subjects, a routine was set so that every second Monday at 9.00 a.m., at the same table in Ben and Florentine for an hour and a half, books would be discussed, theological and pastoral questions would be explored, order would be brought to all manner of things and always with a good dose of humor. On Wednesday evening (April 18th) at 8.30, the parish will celebrate The Vigil Service with his brothers in the diaconate. The funeral Mass will be held at St. Andrew’s on Thursday the 19th at 11 am. Visitation is at Kopriva Taylor Community Funeral Home, 64 Lakeshore Road West, Oakville on April 18th from 3-8pm.

St. Andrew's Parish is delighted to welcome Fr. Thomas Rosica CSB on Tuesday, February 20th at 7.00 p.m. to begin our Lenten Speaker Series. Fr. Tom was one of the media commentators for the Vatican during the two Synods on the Family which Pope Francis called shortly after his election as Pope. He had a front row seat for the presentations and discussions from bishops and lay delegates gathered from around the world as they looked at the reality of family life in the moder...n world, its joys and challenges and sought to find pastoral solutions to support a healthy approach to family life and assistance when there were difficulties. After the Synod, Pope Francis presented to the church a post synod document, Amoris Laetitia (The Joy of Love) which has been highly praised but also has been recieved with some concern. During his talk at St. Andrew's, Fr. Tom will speak about what happened at the Synod on the Family, the themes that began to emerge and how Amoris Laetitia is the fruit of deep listening by the participants and especially Pope Francis.
