SUPPORTING OUR LOCAL SMALL BUSINESSES IN GREY/BRUCE OWEN SOUND - This is a picture of my friend Alan Boivin and I at his fish & chips restaurant in Owen Sound.... Alan and Ryan Follis (not shown) are proud owners of the Sail Restaurant and Catering Company in Meaford, they also had a food truck operating at Heritage Mall for a season. A few months ago, Alan and Ryan opened this Fish and Chips store in Owen Sound. Despite their successes with the Meaford location and the food truck, their Owen Sound location is suffering. Maybe its the lack of dine in traffic due to COVID-19 restrictions, maybe its due to the 10th Street Bridge traffic diversions or maybe its just the trying times we are all in but their sales at the Owen Sound store have evaporated. As a fish and chips aficionado, I visited the restaurant last Sunday at around 1pm and I got talking to one of their employees. I was told by the gentleman that mine was the first sale of that day, I could not understand why that was. Within 72 hours, Alan and I were sitting over a steaming plate of Haddock and fries discussing some the challenges that the duo has been facing at this location. For those of you who dont know, Alan and Ryan have been running the Meals on Wheels program from the the basement of their Owen Sound location for a number of months. This program is run through HCSS (Home and Community Support Services). The program delivers nutritious meals to seniors and other residents in need. The gentlemen have also been avid philanthropists in our community and have frequently donated a percentage of their sales to our local food banks. For me, these guys are heroes! They are everything that our community needs and embodies. So, this weekend if you can please visit them at their location on 1023 2nd Ave East, Owen Sound or perhaps if you are in the area and we havent connected I would love to grab a bite to eat. Anyway that we can support their business is worth it. As we go through these times, I would encourage all my friends to walk in and connect with our local business owners. Often behind those warm smiles that greet us are concerns about making ends meet and perhaps even lasting till the next month. WE ARE ALL IN THIS TOGETHER Have a safe weekend - Waleed

A Prayer for Fathers Day . We give our thanks, Creator God, for the fathers in our lives. Fatherhood does not come with a manual, and reality teaches us that some fathers excel while others fail. We ask for Your blessings for them all and forgiveness where it is needed. This Fathers Day we remember the many sacrifices fathers make for their children and families, and the ways--both big and small--they lift children to achieve dreams thought beyond reach. So too, we remember... all those who have helped fill the void when fathers pass early or are absent; grandfathers and uncles, brothers and cousins, teachers, pastors and coaches and the women of our families.
