Nice winter shot of Havelock.
Pilots, passengers on GA flights subject to CDC testing rule The CDC issued an order that all travelers entering the US on international flights, including pilots and passengers on general aviation aircraft, must present a negative coronavirus test, effective Jan. 26. Murray Huling, the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association's vice president of regulatory affairs, said AOPA has asked the Federal Aviation Administration to put out a notice to pilots and aircrew "to help ensure awareness in the cockpits." Does anyone remember when the Royal Canadian Navy had an aircraft carrier based in Halifax? HMCS Bonaventure as pictured here. Decommissioned in the summer of 1970.
Our Russian Friends leaving for warmer spaces. Heading to Barbados
The sun finally came out! Got me some gas, keys and a set of wings. Toured down Panuke Lake and around St. Margaret’s Bay today. What a stunningly beautiful winter’s flying day in an equally beautiful province.
Best way to see the fall colors around Stanley, from an open cockpit ultralight.
For those interested here's a short video that I edited from my GoPro recordings of yesterday's Searey flight home from Fredericton.
The rescue mission is complete! Yesterday morning I flew up to Fredericton as a passenger in my friend Tom's Searey to pick up my repaired Searey and fly it hom...e. Since Tom is a former fighter pilot I can say that I had a former fighter pilot escort for the flight home. As the old Top Gun cliché goes, Tom you can be my wingman any day! The Fall colors are really coming out now. Stunning! What an awesome day! See more
Nice work Kevin! Nice plug in for Stanley on national TV! https://edmonton.ctvnews.ca/video?clipId=2041129
Well I’m happy to report that I made a successful road trip to Fredericton and back earlier this week. I’d driven there to help my AME technician install a new ...piston, cylinder and cylinder head into my Searey. Fresh oil, filter & spark plugs were also installed! We also found a possible culprit for my damages. Inside my turbo airbox intake we discovered some metal burrs that should have been cleaned up at the factory during manufacturing. My engine technicians said that it’s possible that some of these metal bits came loose and were ingested into my engine. This could have easily started a domino effect of my piston failure. Anyway, we’ve rectified the situation, the manufacturer has been notified and now I’m just waiting for Teddy to pass before I head back to Freddy to retrieve the Searey. Here’s some images of the metal bits we discovered.
Gorgeous day at the Stanley Fly-In BBQ!
Time for some Horse fun
Great turn out today. Thanks to everyone who dropped by.
I did a full circle because it was a full circle moment. We pretty much flew directly over the decommissioned Waterville airstrip on our way to Fredericton last... week. In the past I’d done some flight training down on that beautiful valley strip. We were all told years ago that they closed the airfield & runways because the neighbouring Michelin tire plant might need some space to expand. Well that never happened, dozens lost their jobs and hangars. Now there sits a perfectly good paved airstrip closed to aviation. See more
Kicked some dirt up too!
On route to the hangar today I captured this bright spot. Windsor Nova Scotia’s claim to fame! Long Pond! The birthplace of hockey, or at least that’s what they claim. Who’s your team? I was always an Oilers fan growing up, but I’m not so sure I should admit that now.
Another Covid handyman task completed! This spring I had some protective stainless steel leading edge tape come unglued and shed off my spinning propeller in f...light. After landing immediately without incident, I noticed the damage done to my fibreglass fuselage. While awaiting delivery of an upgraded propeller (with built in leading edge strips that don’t come unglued ), I learned how to repair fibreglass for the first time from our experienced flying club president Kevin Layden. In the past he had built his own fibreglass aircraft. I think he was a great instructor don’t you think? See more

Decided to go remote wilderness camping by flying to a secluded beach on the south end of Panuke Lake (the longest lake in NS at 40km long)! Just as we were ...about to land, we were bummed to see someone had already gotten dibs on our ‘private spot’. Due to having only less than a 1/4 tank of fuel (to free up more weight for our camping gear) and the fact it was the least rockiest beach, we decided to land anyway. Right after landing, two other boats seemed to appear out of nowhere, with people taking their picture next to the plane. After chatting with some friendly strangers for a couple hours, we finally had the spot ALL to ourselves and it was SO peaceful. Another adventure for the books. We’ll definitely be back! See more
