It's Feel Good Friday for the Foundation In 2020 the Foundation was the recipient of several generous donations through patient wills from long time Yellowknifer's. One specific donor and patient here at Stanton, the late Jimmy Magrum, saw a need & requested commodes be purchased by way of a donation through his will. Because of this generous donation, the Foundation was able to purchase four commodes which are now in use on the Medicine, Extended Care & Surgery Units. The... Foundation, staff & patients are very appreciative of his wishes & understands the enormous strength it must have taken Jimmy to discuss his intentions with his loved ones or advisor. Today is "Feel Good Friday" for the Foundation! Along with our Friends of the Foundation Paul Bros Nextreme Inc., who are always keen to give back to the "Children of the North", we did just that! Through my travels & meeting the amazing staff here at Stanton, I found out that the Pediatrics Clinic (where the specialists are), the Emergency & Pediatrics Units (where the littles stay if they have to be admitted) were all in need of some specialized items for our littlest ...(& older) patients that come to be in their care. Because of donors like Paul Bros Nextreme, I had the pleasure of dropping off these amazing fun toys called "Squigz" to the Peds Clinic and Unit. They are made of high-quality silicone rubber & fun bright colors. They stick to smooth surfaces easily, are fun to build with, are deceptively simple & incredibly portable & fun for all ages. They are especially great for children with Autism or ADHD. In addition I found out our Emergency Unit was in need of entertainment material/activities for our younger patients that they see there. I was thrilled to drop off 2 portable DVD players & DVD's in order to help entertain & take their minds off what can be a scary experience when in Emerg. WAIT... there's more!! With the help of the Starlight Children's Foundation Canada we also received a pallet, that's right a PALLET of toys, books, activity sets & DVD's from Disney & another pallet of individually wrapped activity/coloring books & crayons from Tim Hortons! We are so grateful for the Starlight Canada Children's Foundation, & all those large corporations who give back in order to provide these amazing entertainment items for our children.
