The Sturgeon River is both beautiful and dangerous this time of year. It is tempting to venture out on the ice, but it could result is severe injury or death. Do not skate, snowshoe, cross country ski or walk on the ice. Given the dangers of foot traffic, it is equally important not to take snowmobiles, side by sides (UTVs), quads (ATVs) or other vehicles on the ice. Stay off and stay safe. As residents have been following provincial public health measures, hockey nets are available at outdoor boarded rinks for shooting practice only. Hockey, ringette and shinny on outdoor boarded rinks and social ice surfaces remain prohibited as per measures announced on December 8. Due to the nature of these games, it is not possible for participants to maintain a physical distance of two metres from other players. If the rules are respected, outdoor boarded rinks and social ice surfaces will remain open. However, if compliance with the rules is poor, the outdoor boarded rinks and social ice surfaces may be closed. Outdoor rinks can be enjoyed by individuals or by groups of 10 or fewer people while out on boarded rinks and social ice surfaces up to the posted site maximum. Please ensure you are at least two metres physical distance from others while skating. If it is too crowded to maintain this distance, please come back at another time. Also - Limit your ice time to 60 minutes to give everyone a chance to skate. Users themselves will determine whether the City keeps these facilities open and maintained and we all have a part to play in keeping each other safe and healthy. Learn more about outdoor skating and ice conditions at: http://ow.ly/N3sn50CTl8W
