At just 9 years old, Steven (right) lives with Chiari malformation, a rare condition in the brain and spinal canal that leaves him in chronic pain. His diagnosis means there a lot of things he can’t do due to exhaustion, but with his resilient spirit, giving back to kids just like him is certainly not one of them! With brother Liam by his side, the young boys are holding a toy drive to help other sick kids like Steven get through the isolation of COVID-19, and spread some j...oy into hospitals and the homes of families in need for the holidays. We’re still reliving our first-ever Drive-By 4 Smiles in Montreal, and all the heartwarming moments that came with it! Kids and teens, like 13-year-old Moncef, were given some hope, strength and joy during this difficult time of isolation as exotic cars drove by their homes to put on a show just for them!

Visitors have been limited and shared toys are banned due to fear of infection. That's where we come in! Generously donated by Tim Hortons, 58 facilities across Canada received Play From Hospital Packs to safely provide distraction, support, and smiles for children confined to their hospital room! Ac...tivity booklets, crayons, and more were individually sealed as the perfect hospital pick me up for kids in isolation, or even at pop up COVID-19 clinics! Earlier this month, the first-ever Drive-BY 4 Smiles hit the streets of Montreal! As a COVID-19 friendly revamp to Starlight Canada’s usual Drive 4 Smiles event, over 50 drivers visited seriously ill children from the safety and comfort of their own front lawns. Instead of sharing smiles around a racetrack, immunocompromised children confined to home left worries of fear and isolation behind as exotic cars drove by their houses to take photos, wave hello, and remind them that they’re not alone! With the generous support of the car community, this unique fundraiser bringing together drivers of exotic cars with seriously ill children raised over $120,000!

Yo ho, yo ho! It’s a pirate’s life for Starlight children! While social distancing and dressed up in all the finest pirate attire (including masks!), some seriously ill children were able to safely set sail in search of gold this summer thanks to Pirate Life Theatre: Ottawa & Toronto! Sometimes, the best treasure is found in shared smiles with family far away from the worries of hospitals or treatment. Although outings like this have been made possible for some kids, there are still too many immunocompromised children confined to home with no end in sight. This summer, a group of Starlight families and volunteers from the Beauce, Quebec region raised $1,060 for seriously ill children by selling Starlight Bears in their community! While COVID-19 cancelled what would have marked the committee’s 5th Annual Biblio Laurette Nadeau Parent Golf Tournament in support of Starlight Canada - raising $8,395 last year - it certainly didn’t stop their determination to give back! A special thank you to the Starlight families, who already fac...e their own daily challenges, for making a difference in the lives of children who need our support now more than ever. 5-year-old Benjamin thanks the nurse that saved his life! Benjamin is one of 70 worldwide who suffers from an extremely rare mitochondrial disease, named FBXL4. He can’t eat regularly and needs to receive all his nutrition through IV therapy. Since December, Benjamin has had repeated infections, leaving him unable to insert these necessary IV lines. Without this line, Benjamin cannot be fed, which gave little hope for survival, mom, Stéphanie, shared. Then France appeared ...with new ideas. Thanks to France a clinical nurse specialist at the McGill University Health Centre who helps takes care of Benjamin at Montreal Children’s Hospital a revolutionary insertion technique saved Benjamin’s life. To show his appreciation, he gifted France a hand-drawn pair of shoes donated by the Ardene Foundation.
