Instead of the primary focus on safety, the science now looks at a home as a system in which safety, health, comfort and energy consumption are seen as interconnected. As we move toward Net Zero Ready homes over the next decade, the challenge is to get there without making the home unduly costly to build. Here is my blog post on my most recent new home experience: How to build an energy efficient-home-and-not-break-the-bank. It doesn’t take big bucks to make a new home energy efficient. As builders, we were very concerned about the extra costs to meet energy codes but those concerns have largely been alleviated and the techniques we are using makes for a lower cost home in the long run, and one that is healthier and more comfortable.'
