But we know that we are strong and resilient even if we don’t feel it right now. We will get through it. Every time you click on that Zoom link for class you made a step towards trying to stay as healthy as you can during this time. It’s hard. It might get harder and more restricted. There is nothing unfortunately we can do about that right now. Lean in. Try to get a bit of movement every day. Try to get outside. It does wonders. We want to hear how you’re doing! Kelsey Dropping some Knowledge bombs about the myth of squatting below parallel How low should you go? I have a lot of patients come into my office who have been told not to squat all the way down.... I’m here to bust that myth! There are a number of benefits to squatting full depth: Improved 1RM strength Improved mean propulsive velocity (power) Improved 20m sprint performance Improved Wingate test scores (a 30s all out bike sprint measuring anaerobic power) Improved jump performance (Pallares et al., 2020) Many of you may be thinking, but I heard deep squats are bad for your knees?? According to Hartmann et al., (2013), Concerns about the degenerative changes of the tendofemoral complex and the apparent higher risk for chondromalacia, osteoarthritis, and osteochondritis are unfounded (Basically, contrary to popular belief, deep squats do not cause injury) ALSO, both of these papers give mention to WORSE outcomes for pain and function for those only performing a half squat. Thank you to @sclintonpt for bringing this research to my attention through her podcast Tough to Treat, & thank you to CMFA Course by @icephysio, @alan.fred.dpt, @dr.mitch.dpt and @thebarbellphysio for showing us that deep squats are safe!!
