Finally, some logical thinking from the City of Edmonton. This is exciting news!
Permits and inspections are a critical component of your build. Here is everything you need to know about the City of Edmontons inspection process.
The city is cracking down on bylaw and permit infractions for infill projects. Make sure you have your ducks in a row!

Proper engineering is critical in all home design. One example from Toronto of an inadequate engineer overlooking lateral wind-loads. It is always important to do your homework when selecting consultants for your build projects. http://www.cbc.ca//cana/toronto/house-blown-over-1.4006173
I may not suggest this approach when designing your home, but this is the quintessential definition of "function follows form."
The homes two-storey contemporary exterior is acrylic grey stucco with natural wood detailing. Front and rear patios create easy access for entertaining indoors or al fresco.

Time to build those infill rental/revenue properties to help increase the urban density of our city, and accommodate all these additional Edmontonians!
I couldnt agree more. How great would it be to be able build a smaller unused front yard and a bigger private backyard safe for your children to play? The larger backyard also opens up more potential for things like garage suites as well!
An interesting perspective: Reflections on the design process after your project has been completed. Not the typical regrets due to the use of under-qualified design professionals or builders/trades. Instead, this article discusses the importance of conveying your own personal design ideas throughout the design process, as well as not to fear risk taking with wilder design ideas. Thinking outside the box certainly can have a significant impact on the final product!
City hearing to ease the regulations applying to infill projects are a step in the right direction, but they dont go quite far enough.
More City discussion to take place regarding infill regulation. Front attached driveways out, larger backyards, larger basement windows, and less resurrection on garage suites, in! https://www.facebook.com/edmontonjournal/posts/10154950091154641
A unique D.I.Y. idea for relatively cheap custom flooring. May not be for everyone, but I have seen this done using dark/light pennies to create a pattern or an image like a world map. Can look great in a home office application. https://www.facebook.com/uniladmag/videos/2567130186643358/
A very exciting innovation in green technology by Tesla should be hitting markets in the not to distant future. However, costs are estimated to be comparable to a clay tile roof, not typical asphalt shingles. For higher-end homes interested in the durability and aesthetic of a tile roof, these solar tiles may be a great option! https://electrek.co//tesla-solar-roof-cost-less-than-regu/
City of Edmonton to amend the zoning bylaw to allow new minimum lot width of 7.5M, compensating for human error in original survey of many lots. http://edmontonjournal.com//edmonton-to-reduce-minimum-lot
The City of Edmonton appears to be getting a bit lax on some regulations of the zoning bylaw. Arguments can be made both for and against.
