St. Brigid's Catholic Church 01.01.2021

PARISHES IN LOCKDOWN We want to thank all our parishioners for their ongoing support during this period of great uncertainty. It has been wonderful to see so many of you at Mass since we re- opened in June. We are especially grateful to the volunteers who have helped ensure our church is a safe place to gather they have done incredible work! As you know, the number of new COVID-19 cases in the Greater Toronto Area have increased significantly in recent days and, at present,... Toronto and Peel Regions are in the Lockdown Stage as identified by the Province of Ontario. In addition, Premier Ford announced on Friday, November 20th that special emergency measures needed to be taken in our area. For this reason, we must temporarily close our Church until further notice. Sadly, due to these measures, public Masses must be temporarily cancelled. Fr. Carlos will continue to celebrate private Mass daily for the intentions of parishioners and for those suffering from Covid-19. We will continue to livestream our Masses through our Facebook page every Tuesday and Thursday at 12 Noon and every Sunday at 11:00 am. If you do not have a Facebook account, you can still watch us live by clicking on this link: www.facebook.com/st.brigidschurch/live/ We recognize these measures are extremely challenging. We are so incredibly grateful for the efforts of our heroic volunteers who have been faithfully welcoming parishioners and cleaning the church between services, ensuring that we can operate safely and responsibly. Your selflessness and generosity are inspiring! We will continue to update you as the situation evolves. Please refer to our website and social media channels. We pray that you and your loved ones remain safe and healthy. May God continue to bless you now and always!

CONGRATULATIONS & GRATITUDE We would like to take this opportunity to extend our congratulations to all those that recently received the Sacraments of First Holy Communion and Confirmation. Due to COVID-19, the Masses were put on hold for the students who were preparing in 2019-2020. Thank you to the Sacraments Coordinator for working diligently with Fr. Carlos to ensure that the ceremonies were carefully planned while adhering to all COVID protocols. Special thanks to the Ca...techists for their time and energy in preparing the students for both Sacraments. Much gratitude for the support and hard work of the ushers, lectors, musicians, and the cleaners. The success of these celebrations are part and parcel to everyone’s contributions. We are forever grateful for the gift of your time and talent. Last and certainly not least, special thanks to the Most Reverend Bishop Robert Kasun for celebrating the two Confirmation Masses on November 7th and 14th. It was truly a gift having the Bishop present at both Masses.

Reviving St. Brigid's History Along these 11 years of ongoing renovations of St. Brigid’s Church, we have recently discovered something very special. When St. Brigid’s was built, Fr. James Hayes, first pastor of St. Brigid’s Church, seemed to have a spiritual tripod to guide his evangelization. The tripod consisted of the Holy Spirit, the Blessed Virgin Mary, and St. Joseph. He wanted to have three designs representing them depicted on the tiles of the original floor. He p...laced the inlays of the Virgin Mary and St. Joseph with their own altar and the inlay of the Holy Spirit at the center aisle. In 1995, the pastor at the time covered the tiles with carpet; therefore the inlays were no longer visible to the congregation. In 2019, when we started renovating the interior of the Church, we discovered the inlays. Much to Fr. Carlos’ excitement and joy, he asked about the possibility of having the inlays reproduced in carpet using the exact colours of the original inlays. In addition, Fr. Carlos requested that they be placed in their original spots. Needless to say, the request was successfully met. The spiritual tripod that inspired Fr. Hayes is also something that Fr. Carlos identifies with.
