It is imperative that rural property owners in interface fire zones have the knowledge and tools to effectively FireSmart their property. We need local government to make it easier, not harder to make necessary changes like removing trees that are dead, spacing trees, removing trees from zone# 1. We have concerns about a new proposed tree management By-law that would discourage residents from protecting their homes due to costs like tree removal permits and arborist reports. We will be digging deeper into this because rural residents should be incentivized not penalized. In the meantime please take the public input survey here: https://engage.mission.ca/tree-management-bylaw

SCA membership. We are quite low with our numbers this year. The funds raised through membership are important. 100% goes towards operating expenses at the hall. Every board member is a volunteer. A bonus to being a member are the deeply discounted hall rental rates. Fees are only $20/family for the year Bonnie will be at the yard sale tomorrow to accept new memberships. This is a small price to pay for keeping community events running here. She hopes to see you tomorrow. 10-2 Thanks everyone

The Forest Fire Danger Rating is at HIGH and is expected to remain so throughout the weekend. Campfires are only allowed in approved fire rings, such as those f...ound in provincial campsites, as per District Bylaw 2975-1996. Campfires not meeting the bylaw will be put out. The Fire Department will be conducting regular patrols in the Stave West area, and will be extinguishing campfires not meeting the by-law. A full campfire ban of the area is not planned at this time, but may be put in force soon, if the weather remains dry and hot.

Please be advised that the area north of the Kearsley Creek Campsite is closed to camping, it is available for Day Use only (Between 9km and 10km on the Florenc...e Lake FSR - see attached screenshot of the area in question). This order has been made as a result of the excessive amounts of garbage/human waste causing significant wildlife issues, and has been made under the FOREST RECREATION REGULATIONS, Section 20. This area will be regularly monitored and the order will be enforced by the RCMP and the Conservation Officers Service. Camping should only take place in designated campsites in the Stave West Area. #MissionBC See more
