The Stellarton Police Service would like to warn the public of a recent scam involving a puppy for sale in another province. The intended buyer was first asked to pay in American dollars and then asked to purchase prepaid Visa cards. The complainant was then told that a pressurized kennel would need to be purchased. When the buyer complained of the increased costs, they were told that if they did not pay they would be reported for abandoning the animal. Scams like this are quite common and reputable sellers would never request prepaid credit cards for such a transaction.

Virtual safe graduation message presented to all Pictou County Grade 12 high school students. June 25, 2020 06:00 a.m. Pictou County, Nova Scotia ... News Release Students from all three high schools throughout Pictou County will be able to view virtually, the devastating realities associated with texting and impaired driving and the realities emergency responders face each time they respond to a crash involving teens. This year due to COVID-19 and the inability for students to view the mock crash, Pictou County Emergency Service and madd PIctou County have partnered together to present a virtual safe grad message. Alcohol and or drugs and driver distraction are the three leading factors in fatal and serious injury collisions in Nova Scotia. The students will be able witness a virtual mock collision which will display a graphic representation of the emotion of the victims of a collision and the professionalism and skills of emergency responders to treat the injured. "This virtual mock collision will show the realities of making an irresponsible decision to text and drive and to drive impaired, says Constable Ken Macdonald of madd Pictou County. "We hope that students will make safe and responsible decisions during their graduation by witnessing the virtual mock collision and the consequences of texting and driving impaired." In the last several months safe graduation has taken another very important safe graduation message due to the coronavirus pandemic. This year emergency services has partnered with the Aberdeen Hospital to provide an important health message to practice physical distancing and good hygiene by washing hands during all graduation activities. Police Week 2020.

Stellarton Police Service 06.08.2020

This is National Police Week, an annual celebration of police agencies across Canada and the work they do to keep communities safe. It started in the 1970's as a way for police to connect with the people they serve, and 50 years later, community relations remain an essential part of public safety. This year’s theme is One Uniform. Many Specialties. A police service is more than the uniform of a front-line officer; it is a collective effort of specialized sections, teams an...d civilian professionals with a variety of skills and expertise who work together for the health and safety of citizens and communities. We share an oath to protect and serve, and we do this in many ways. Policing is about more than catching the people who break the law; it’s also about public education & crime prevention, community outreach, relationship building and a collaborative approach working with the people we serve to address our unique needs for the safety of our citizens and visitors. Thank you to the many hundred dedicated people that make up the policing community in Nova Scotia we are proud of the incredible work that you do to serve and protect. It is truly an honour and a privilege to work in policing and to serve our communities, and it’s a responsibility we carry out with compassion, respect and professionalism. Thank you, Nova Scotia, for your continued support, trust and confidence in our shared commitment to public safety. #NPW2020 #PoliceCan
