Piriformis Syndrome: The piriformis is a small muscle, located deep in the gluteal region; it’s primary job is to help with external rotation of the hip and thigh The sciatic nerve is one of the biggest nerves in our body! It runs from the lower spin and courses through the pelvis and gluteal region, before running its course down the leg ... The sciatic nerve passes through the pelvis in relation to the piriformis muscle (usually below the muscle, although there can be variations of it passing above or even through the muscle)! When there is dysfunction in the piriformis muscle, such as muscle shortening or ‘tightness’ or spasm, it can cause compression of that sciatic nerve! The result? Nerve pain, dull ache, muscle weakness, numbness, tingling and tenderness in the glute and hip area as well as the back of the leg This can also cause deep pain within the hip and gluteal region, which is why this syndrome is also known as Deep Buttocks Syndrome Prevention and useful tips: * Warm up! * Strength train * Flexibility train (yoga) * Stretch * Rest * Consult your trusted health care professional! Want to learn more about piriformis syndrom? Or have any questions? Message me anytime! Book your appointment now to see how manual osteopathy can help you!

Lymphatic System: The Lymphatic System is made up of a series of of vessels and nodes that collects excess fluid from the tissues (lymph) that is then filtered and returned to venous circulation. It provides an important immune mechanism for the body and is a vital component of our body’s immune defence! ... Lymphatic Drainage: It is beneficial to improve the flow of the lymphatic system. When there is any kind of obstruction in your lymphatic system, fluid can build up and may present as puffiness, stagnation or swelling. The encouragement of drainage through manual therapy can improve circulation and allow for more efficient absorption and removal of toxins, bacteria, viruses etc, through the lymphatics. Osteopathic manual therapy can help by improving motion in areas of restriction and therefore creating space to improve lymphatic flow in the body! Remember the principle drainage precedes supply. We must encourage drainage from an area in order to make way for new fluid (arterial flow) to bring nutrients to the tissues. Want to learn more or see how manual osteopathic treatments can help you?
