I came across a question today in a book and it was simple, powerful, and thought provoking for me. We see so much about what people are against. But, for the sake of mental health respite, what if you thought more about what you're for? There are so many ways to answer the question of What Are You For - it can be silly or profound!... There's mostly only one way however to answer the question what are you against? And it doesn't usually put us in a happy mood or a change-maker mindset. Perhaps you could even reword what you're against and make it what you're for! In case you didn't already know this... This is something you need to know to really know ME. I am FOR Pizza.

This is indeed a very unique time for you and if you were already experiencing the exhaustion, overwhelm, and anxiety of burnout then things have likely ramped up with a new year and possibly new rules to follow in your area.... I know that I am only getting a parent and spouse of an educator’s glimpse of what you are experiencing this school year but I want you to know that I experienced my own burnout years ago and it left me wondering how on earth I was going to be able to enjoy my job, my kids, and my life again. I was inspired this morning by my lovely spiritual mentor Faith in Healing.Diane Harrington when she asked on her page to post a word that represented 2020. I chose fortitude and, as I look back on the year it couldn’t be a truer theme for me and I am sure it’s a word many can relate to in so many ways as we look back on the year. Fortitude for me this year meant a new commitment to moving my body and making it stronger. This was something I had never committed to wholehear...tedly before this February and here I am ten months later and I am proud to say that I have become so much stronger this year in my resolve and my physical body. Fortitude also meant sticking to my personal values even when there was a feeling of missing out, even when it makes me seem rigid to others or I feel judged or misunderstood. At the end of the day and at the end of all of the mayhem this year and beyond I want to look back and say I did not waver in my resolve to look after others and my family in the small ways I could. Fortitude this year for me also meant taking risks and growing as a person and a business owner despite feeling wildly uncomfortable. We just can’t grow if we don’t try a new approach and this became so apparent to me. I created a signature program I am proud of, I focused in on who I want to serve, and I moved my practice completely online which was something I knew I wanted but was not sure what it would look like until I was forced to try it and it’s been so amazing. If you could look at your 2020 through the lens of growth what word would you choose to describe it? All my best wishes for a Happy New Year!

You know how in My Big Fat Greek Wedding the dad puts Windex on everything to fix, clean, or cure it? I think walking has been the Windex of my household this past year! Sometimes it’s hard to drag everyone outside or even drag myself out there but I can’t even explain how much our perspectives shift after a walk. ... My kids were in a huge battle yesterday and we took a walk and they spontaneously apologized to each other half way through the walk. And my kids are stubborn as heck. I find walking the simplest fix with the biggest payoff these days. Do you fit walks into your days? #walksarewindex

I like to read Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening by Robert Frost each Winter Solstice specifically for the line about the darkest evening of the year but also for the whole beauty of it. I love when art describes something that is tangible to my experience and I can pull it up and feel connected to the piece in real-time! I feel so cozy and so much anticipation for what lies ahead (even if I am miles from rest) when I read this entire poem so I urge you to look it ...up today and read or re-read it. Winter Solstice, to me, is simply about going quiet within and feeling the little seeds of anticipation in this season and dreaming about what’s to come. I love how nature gives us guideposts that we can look to for inspiration. What does Winter Solstice bring to mind for you?
