I haven’t taken a shot like this in a while but the colour of what’s in my glass makes a big impact on me. I am the kind of girl who skips dessert to have a beautiful glass of #vinsanto #thatshowiroll

Tuesday’s Portuguese class at @wanderfoodandwine was so fun for me! I have been wanting to make a couple of these recipes this past season and didn’t get an opportunity until now. The following three items are not on the menu as posted online or in the bar, but I made a little extra of each to share with food lovers over the next day or two.... Pork and clams in Cataplana Caldo Verde Cod fritters (bacalao) Don’t forget to ask for one of these features when you visit!

Worked a full day already today so I’m treating myself to an afternoon hot tub. Thrilled to find a chilled @sterlingvineyards1964 #chardonnay in the wine fridge to upgrade this #longweekend afternoon down time. #cheflife #timeforme #metime #rejuvenate #timeflies #weekend #holidaymonday

Sundays and bubbles are a natural go-to pairing. Lazy, relaxed and sunny afternoons call for a laid-back, natural wine like a glass of 2017 #petnat from Tawse Winery Have you tried a petillant naturel before? ... It’s the most natural way of producing #sparklingwine and I love how creamy and luscious they are - BIG fan! Other Canadian favourite Pet Nats you can try this week? I also love the Pet Nat Rosé from Queenston Mile Vineyard and the Pet Nat from Benjamin Bridge always reminds me a bit of a Bellini - think juicy peaches. This is the week to celebrate all things Canadian so start your #canadaday shopping list with one of these three sparklers. I bet if your ordered online on their websites you will have a few bottles on your doorstep in no time! Cheers to Canadian wine! #wine #petillantnaturel #sundayfunday #sundayvibes #patiosippin

Vented about this briefly on Twitter this morning. I can’t have people inside my wine bar because it gathers people together who are talking and eating too close together. But on an airplane, it is suddenly A-OK?!?... The main argument about indoor dining is the close proximity, the talking loudly (if it’s a bar) and the length of time in that enclosed space. Most flights times (including boarding time, waiting for takeoff and landing) is longer than a standard dining timeline. I understand that the airlines are hurting financially and increasing their passenger loads may be crucial to their overall survival (as well as tourist destinations, etc). I get it! I am personally looking at this new change from two perspectives. One - as someone in the hospitality industry, I feel like we don’t have the same opportunity to voice concerns or offer solutions to help fix our small businesses and get things back to normal - like the larger corporations do. We are given rules to follow (limited seating, table spacing, new outdoor expenses) and we dutifully follow them just for a small chance at serving guests again. We grumble a bit, but we follow the rules to keep ourselves and out guests safe and comfortable. Two - Frequent and passionate travellers, like me, who were possibly considering booking travel later this year are now going to be wondering if the airlines are even trying to encourage social distancing/protective measures. They were allowed to set their own rules from the beginning and now they are quickly changing them as needed? I know that the middle seat doesn’t mean THAT much in the overall science of the COVID-19 spread, but for someone who usually gets stuck in that seat often, keeping a seat away would make a difference for me. It is a delicate balance to re-adjust economic AND health priorities during this uncertain time, but I am hoping that Canada isn’t going to jump ahead too quickly to keep up with the others. Two steps forward, one step back... ?
