Happy Sunday Friends! Lots of fun things on the books here this weekend. We’ve been busy scheming and planning and manifesting all kinds of exciting projects that we’ll share a bit more about soon. Tonight we’re taking to the airwaves (instastories) to answer a few of your questions. Get excited as we all endure the awkwardness of Brad and I attempting to make a video together !

Real Talk. Kicking off the week/year with one of the Most Asked, potentially most controversial Questions on the topic of raising animals for food. Q: don’t you feel bad eating them? . I didn’t want to post anything on the topic until we had actually gone through the process of raising, butchering & in turn eating our own meat. But now that we have gone through our first season, I can confidently say, my answer is a hard No. Now, of course there is a long explanation, which... I will try to consolidate to the space of this little square, so here goes. . A: No, I don’t feel bad. The fact of the matter is, if I / We (and hopefully eventually you too) didn’t eat them, these pigs/chickens/turkeys wouldn’t be here. The lovely, happy, outdoor life they lead wouldn’t exist. Believe it or not, it costs a LOT of money to raise animals in a humane, sustainable way. With the exception of a few wealthy philanthropists around the world, very few people are willing/able to raise animals in this way just because it’s fun. So I guess, even though it’s complicated, I feel really good about it. I know that by doing so, I am supporting the system. By eating sustainably/ethically pasture raised meat, I am making it possible for another pig/turkey/chicken to come here and live the same awesome life. . It is way too easy to be detached from our food. It’s way too easy to shop with the mindset that meat comes from the grocery store and there was no life attached to it prior. It’s too easy to enjoy fruits and vegetables from around the world without asking about the treatment of the workers who picked them, and the environmental impact of growing them. . So, while I can’t speak for the animals themselves, I would like to think, if they had a say, it would be thankful. They would be glad that (by eating meat they provided) you helped make it possible for them to live a pretty stellar life. You helped them win the lottery to run, root, butt scratch & play to their hearts content. You helped them avoid an otherwise not so pleasant destiny of confinement. So... .
