I’m only passing along info from the Provincial Government.... that said, here goes! CLARIFICATION ON ISOLATION REQUIREMENTS Anyone who returns from travel outside of the Atlantic Bubble must self-isolate for 14 days. If a person who has travelled outside the Atlantic Bubble is asymptomatic and are isolating in a home with people who have not travelled, then the other members of the household do not have to self-isolate. The public health guidance regarding these s...elf-isolation rules is not new. These guidelines have been in place since restrictions on travel were implemented at the beginning of the pandemic and has not led to a case of community transmission in NL. The Self-Isolation Guidelines for Rotational Workers that work in Canada can be found online here: https://www.gov.nl.ca//self-isolation-/rotational-workers/ If a worker is not coming from a site with an outbreak that has been identified by NL Public Health officials and the worker is asymptomatic, they are permitted to arrange for a COVID-19 test between days 5 and 7 of returning home. If their test is negative and the worker is still asymptomatic, they are permitted to finish their self-isolation after day 7. Under any circumstance, if a person tests positive, public health officials will provide further information to the individual and their close contacts about their self-isolation requirements and next steps. When a person in a household tests positive, all others who were living in the household during the self-isolation period are tested and are required to self-isolate as well. The contact tracing process begins immediately and is conducted by trained public health officials. If you are considered to be a close contact of someone who tests positive, you will be contacted by public health staff. If public health is unable to identify all close contacts, the Department of Health and Community Services will issue a public advisory to notify members of the public of a possible exposure location. There are often rumours that circulate regarding COVID-19. The contact tracing process for all current cases in NL has been completed. If you have not been contacted, public health officials have determined that you are not at risk of exposure at this time. We are doing well. We need to remember to be kind and understanding to individuals throughout our province and recognize we are all affected by the pandemic in different ways. Please continue to follow the public health advice provided by the Chief Medical Officer. #WearYourMask #WashYourHands #StayHomeNL #COVID19Nfld

Right now in Newfoundland and Labrador.... The TransOcean Barents is currently sitting in Bay Bulls Harbour, getting ready to leave the province for Norway. The Terra Nova FPSO is mothballed in Conception Bay.... Bay du Nord is deferred. The future of the Come By Chance Refinery is up in the air. The West White Rose Project could end up becoming decommissioned. Thousands of jobs are lost, people cannot unlock their pensions, and families are struggling. What can empowering one girl do? It can change the world! Today, we celebrate girls. Let’s all fight for girls’ rights and gender equality. Sadly, despite the progress that has been made, there is still lots of work to do! On this #InternationalDayoftheGirl, we celebrate the voices and power of girls in Newfoundland and Labrador, and around the world. Each day, girls in our province prove that they are unstoppable by breaking down barriers to help create a more equal wo...rld for all. This year’s theme My Voice, Our Equal Future reminds us that everyone benefits when girls have the opportunities they need to reach their full potential. It also recognizes the work that still must be done in order to achieve gender equality and to advance the empowerment of girls. Now, more than ever, we need to ensure that all girls have the freedom and support they need in order to be able to achieve their full potential. Every girl has the right to live a life free from violence, opression, and patriarchal barriers to achieving their full potential. In our community of Mount Pearl, Dave Aker has been on leave for over 100 days because of his harassment and mistreatment of females. With a municipal election coming up in less than a year, I am hopeful that we will soon have a Mayor who respects women. Our city deserves better. #DayoftheGirl #MountPearl

NO NEW CASES TODAY (SUNDAY). Today (Sunday, October 11), Newfoundland and Labrador has no new confirmed cases of COVID-19. The province has nine active cases. 269 people have recovered from the virus. To date, 46,565 people have been tested.... The Chief Medical Officer of Health is providing guidance to residents of Newfoundland and Labrador regarding travel to the Moncton and Campbellton regions of New Brunswick. This guidance is being issued because of COVID-19 outbreaks in these two regions. If travel to these regions is required, Newfoundlanders and Labradorians should follow any and all Public Health guidance in effect in New Brunswick. While in New Brunswick, people should limit the number of close contacts to as few as possible, maintain physical distancing, practice frequent and proper hand hygiene, and practice proper respiratory etiquette. Travellers to Newfoundland and Labrador from these regions for the first 14 days after arrival should self monitor for symptoms of COVID-19 and contact 811 to arrange testing if symptoms develop. Symptoms of COVID-19 include: Fever (or signs of a fever, including chills, sweats, muscle aches, light headedness); Cough; Headache; Sore throat; Painful swallowing; Runny nose; Diarrhea; Loss of sense of smell or taste; Unexplained loss of appetite; or, Small red or purple spots on the hands and/or feet. Travellers to Newfoundland and Labrador from these regions should follow any and all Public Health guidance in effect in this province. For the first 14 days after arrival, travellers should also not attend any large gatherings and avoid crowded public places. Based on the current situation in these regions and the information available to Public Health officials in Newfoundland and Labrador, this extra level of caution is appropriate. While travel within the Atlantic Bubble is permitted, this guidance is being issued by the Chief Medical Officer of Health out of an abundance of caution. Newfoundland and Labrador remains part of the Atlantic Bubble and there is no evidence to support leaving the bubble at this time. The Chief Medical Officer of Health has been in communication with Public Health officials in New Brunswick and continues to monitor the situation. If the situation in these regions change, further measures may need to be implemented. All provinces in the Atlantic Bubble continue to work together to ensure the health and safety of people living within the Atlantic region. #COVID19Nfld #StayHomeNL

TODAY IS WORLD MENTAL HEALTH DAY. It is an opportunity to raise awareness about the importance of fostering open discussions around mental health in order to fight the stigma associated with mental illness, and strengthen our commitment to ensure everyone has access to the mental health care they need. Everyone has a right to have access to adequate mental health services and supports, and this year, as people in our community deal with increased isolation due to the COVID-...19 pandemic, the need to ensure this right is upheld is more pressing than ever. During my time in the provincial legislature, I was proud to be a part of driving action to provide critical mental health services to those most at risk, while helping all Newfoundlanders and Labradorians access mental health services. That being said, there is still much more work that needs to be done in order to ensure everyone has access to the mental health care they need. I will continue to advocate. We all have a part to play. Today and everyday, mental health matters.

The one new confirmed case is a male in the Western Health region between 40 and 49 years of age. The new case is a close contact of a previous case. The individual is a member of the same extended household. Because this individual was identified previously as a close contact of a previous case, he was already in quarantine throughout the infectious period. This means there is no risk of transmission to the community. Contact tracing by Public Health is completed. Everyone considered a close contact has been advised to quarantine. This brings the total number of confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the province to 284. The province has nine active cases. 271 people have recovered from the virus. To date, 47,753 people have been tested.
