Mike Wallace gains inspiration from geometric forms with their inherent symmetry, and also from the more irregular shapes, textures and colours of the environment around us. The artist interprets interface as an experiment interpreting a part feather drawn monoprint image using fine threads, line, texture. Linda Wallace interprets interface as an exploration of the liminal space between light and dark. The artist explains, The imagery is an abstract blending of shape and colour showing delight in my remaining visual connections, even when not seen clearly. The vintage glass beads sewn to the surface are arranged in the pattern of Braille symbols spelling out the word: B L I N D. Ixchel Suarez interprets interface as metaphor for connection: life and death; natural and synthetic; a harmonious moment in the forest. The artist explains that her work relates to the way earth finds its way to survive, together with the interaction of materials of reuse. David Stokes characterizes tapestry weaving as a slow process in which I enjoy the subtle effect that hatching and blending can bring to a work and the wonderful tactile quality of the cotton warp and worsted weft used. The artist interprets interface as the contemplation of human emotion. Part of INTERFACE, an exhibition of small-format tapestries by 30 artists, 15 from Canada and 15 from England. Lin Squires interprets interface as the filter for sensing the natural world, retaining the essence, discarding the surplus. The concept for this tapestry came from a photograph the artist took in some woodlands, which then she simplified, limiting the colours and arranging them in a pattern on the loom. Dot Seddon interprets interface as points where two things meet: physical and/or ideological; religious and political in Belfast. The artist explains, This tapestry is based on a map of part of Belfast. The green areas denote the mainly Republican Catholic areas and the orange denote the mainly Unionist Protestant areas. Victoria Carley explores how people cope with grief anticipated in the wake of personal and global crisis. If Anticipatory Grief is a mood, the artist asks, what colour is it? In this art quilt, bruise-like colours flow alongside grey to portray sadness, punctuated with moments of colour and lightness.
