SOLD! - for over 30 years members of our community have called 51 King St. E. home every evening as they sat down with friends to enjoy a hot meal. 2020 has bee...n an extremely challenging year, COVID forced us to shut down our kitchen and prevented us from having meals together as a family. At our Annual General Meeting in October the membership approved the sale of the building at 51 King St. E., and we are pleased to announce it has sold for $825,000. We want you all to know that we appreciate the patience and compassion everyone has shown for the well-being of each other during this time. It has been so heartening to see how the community has come together to provide what they could to help care for others. Hopefully 2021 will bring brighter days as we get set to start construction on our new building in the spring. The DOFN Board of Directors plan to have shovels in the ground as soon as the frost thaws. We look forward to sitting down for dinner at 227 Simcoe Street next fall - WE CAN’T WAIT TO SEE YOU AGAIN!

It is beginning to feel like Fall and there is a lot that is happening here at First Light Foundation of Hope! Our Outreach Center is continuing to serve meal...s-to-go Monday to Friday for breakfast (6am-8am) and dinner (6pm-8pm). With the cooler temperatures, more guests are coming to us for hot coffee and hot meals! WE NEED YOUR HELP! Homemade muffins and banana bread slices are in desperate need (Individually wrapped)! Crock pot meals are also in great need! These can be put into large freezer bags which then allows us to freeze flat and store much easier. Some meals that have been donated to us in the past are: - Chili - Pasta with meat sauce - Beans and wieners - Pulled pork - Mac 'n Cheese - Goulash - Turkey Casserole WE ARE LEAVING CAMP SAMAC TODAY Starting this afternoon, we will also have approximately 5 guests from Camp Samac staying with us at our Outreach Center 24/7 for varying lengths of time over the next 2-6 weeks while we try to get them housed. WE NO LONGER WILL BE RECEIVING FOOD SUPPORT! Crock pot meals and homemade baked goods are greatly needed and appreciated during this time! Items can be dropped off to our center at 253 Simcoe St S in Oshawa between 9am - 1pm Monday - Friday. Our office is located up the stairs, first door on the right. Please direct any questions to [email protected]. Thank you for your continued support! God Bless!

Short Term Rental - Seeking Help (share if you think it might help) Colleagues and friends, We all know of the recent tragedy in Oshawa. Kelly Harrington, with ...Royal Lepage Frank is assisting the surviving family to find a short-term rental. The ideal property would be located between Whitby and Bowmanville and offer three bedrooms, including one on the main floor, a main floor bathroom with a walk-in shower, an open kitchen and wide hallways suitable for a walker. Something furnished with a yard would also be helpful. This is a 2-3 month need. If you know of something suitable please reach out to Kelly Harrington by email: [email protected]. I share the above with Kelly's permission, while at the same time trying to allow this grieving familiy some privacy. Please do not share this request with the press.

There was a farmer who grew excellent quality wheat and every season he won the award for the best grown in his county. One year a reporter from the local newsp...aper interviewed the farmer and learned that each Spring the man shared his seed with his neighbors so that they too could plant it in their fields... How can you afford to share your best wheat seed with your neighbors when they are entering their crops in the competition with yours?" the reporter asked.... Why that's very simple, the farmer explained... "The wind picks up pollen from the developing wheat and carries it from field to field. If my neighbors grow inferior wheat, cross-pollination will steadily degrade the quality of all the wheat, including mine. If I am to grow good wheat, I must help my neighbors grow good wheat"... The reporter realized how the farmer's explanation also applied to peoples' lives in the most fundamental way... Those who want to live meaningfully and well must help enrich the lives of others, for the value of a life is measured by the lives it touches. And those who choose to be happy must help others find happiness, for the welfare of each is bound up with the welfare of all... See more

The time has come that we may return to our places of worship. New protocols and guidelines are in place, and as we make our return it is good for us to keep in mind that its going to take us time to readjust to worshipping together. May God bless us and keep us as we go.
