TENSION HEADACHES . Tension-type headaches are one of the most common forms of headaches yet they are not well understood . Most people describe having a band of pressure around their head that can last from 30 minutes to a week.... . They can be related to muscles tightening in the back of the neck and improper alignment of the joints of the spine. . One of the best ways to combat tension headaches is through lifestyle changes. . Exercise Regularly -This helps reduce the frequency and intensity of headaches -It also helps relieves stress, relaxes muscles and increases the levels of beta-endorphins, which are your bodys natural stress relievers . Relax Your Muscles -Applying heat or ice to sore muscles in the shoulders and the back of the neck may ease the tension -Massage is another way to relieve muscle tension. Gently massage the muscles of your head, neck and shoulders with your fingertips -A warm bath can also do wonders for those tight, achy and stiff muscles. . Perfect Your Posture -Good posture can help keep your muscles from tensing up and reduce strain on your body -A jutting head combined with slumped shoulders can cause fatigue and tension in your neck and upper back (upper cross syndrome / see @stibbardchiropractic for more information) -When standing, your head, shoulders, hips and ankles should line up, one comfortably above the other. Your knees should be slightly bent and your feet should be shoulder width apart or more. . Record Your Headaches -Record when your headaches occur and what you were doing before they started -Try to recognize the factors that cause or aggravate your headaches. -***Be sure to tell your chiropractor if youve noticed any changes in your usual headaches, such as frequency, duration or intensity, or if your headaches begin to worry you. Thank you to the @canchiroassoc for providing this info!

PLANTAR FASCIITIS What is it? Inflammation of the fascia in the bottom of the foot. Usually causing a stabbing pain in the bottom of the foot near the heel. ... Fascia is a really hot topic in the world of physical therapy. What a lot of people dont understand is that fascia is continuous throughout the body and not cut up into sections. Therefore, plantar fasciitis is not necessarily an issue with the plantar fascia itself, but it could stem from fascial tension somewhere along the posterior chain. When treating plantar fasciitis its importnant to treat the plantar fascia itself with modalities such as acupuncture, instrument assisted soft tissue therapy and mobilization of the ankle. But its also important to assess tension and joint mechanics of the posterior chain from toes to hips in order to make sure we are addressing the cause of the plantar fasciitis and not just the symptoms. . If this sounds like something that is bothering you, call the office to make an appointment today! . 226.506.2681 [email protected] www.stibbardchiropractic.com

Benefits of Meal Prep We do our best to meal prep at the beginning of the week to make our lives a little easier when we get busy! Here are some benefits of meal prepping that you might not know Temptation Removal : Ever been hit with hunger and have nothing on hand to eat? Meal prepping ensures you always have options that fit your dietary needs because youve planned in advance and brought your own food ... Total Control : You gain complete calorie control and macro balance, and you limit usage of unwanted ingredients like added sugar, salt and fats. You are also ensuring you get the best-quality options and more fresh ingredients because you are selecting them yourself. Hunger Manager : You are able to eat as soon as you feel hungry rather than having to wait to decide and then find a food source. Managing hunger often means you wont overeat when you finally sit down for a meal because you wont be as insanely famished. Time Saver : Whether you simply pre-chop ingredients or cook all your meals for the week each Sunday afternoon, when you get home after a long day, youll be thankful you dont have to take the time to go to the store or perhaps even cook. Money Saver : Your portion control now has cost control. You are likely saving money because you arent ordering out every lunch and/or dinner and can choose your meal-prep recipes based on sales at the grocery store if you wish Waste Eliminator : Once you have a meal-prep routine established, youll know exactly how much of each ingredient you need, which also cuts down on food waste. Stress Reliever : Solving all your food decisions in advance really frees up some of your willpower and mental stress, helping you reach your goals faster and with more ease.

Your favourite fitness class probably doesnt serve your postpartum healing. I said it. 1000s of burpees, intense AMRAPs and having a trainer yell "10 more reps..." at you is not aiding the true healing your body requires. While well-intentioned, most trainers simply lack the knowledge of what your body is going through after pregnancy, child birth and in the post natal period. Im part of a company on a mission to raise the standard of care for post natal women. You deserve expert level care in this, the most transitional period of your life. Im launching another GrowCo Pregnancy/ Post Natal Rehab Course in Leamington & Windsor NEXT WEEK! This is a doctor-led program rooted in deep healing & supporting new moms body + mind. . The course includes 8 sessions over 4 weeks. A typical 60min class includes: breathwork core + pelvic floor rehab upper + lower body strengthening total body conditioning . all in a safe, inclusive & supportive environment. . Peanut Ball . What is it? Its a ball that was first used in physical therapy office and is not used during labour and delivery. It is shaped like a peanut, ...so you can wrap your legs around the dipped part in the middle. The major claim is that it can help women who are in bed open their pelvis . How is it Used? In a semi reclined position with one leg over the ball and the other on the side. A support person pushes the ball are close to the mothers hips as possible. Many feel this position promotes dilation and descent with a well positioned baby Sidelying. The ball is used to lift the upper leg and open the pelvic outlet. Many feel this position helps rotate a baby in a less favourable posterior position. . Possible benefits: Reduction in pain Shortened labour time Reduction in c-section rate Reduction in rate of other intervention (forceps and vacuum extraction) So what does the research say? The peanut ball can shorten the first and second stages of labour by as much as 2 hours It can decrease pain by a significant amount (moving positions in labour can help with pain, and the ball encourages movement) In a small study it showed to decrease the rate of c-sections amount women who chose to do an epidural Several moms asked to stop using the ball because they felt intense pressure (not pain), and this is because they quickly reached full dilation after using the ball This research is promising, but larger studies are still needed! . 226.506.2681 [email protected] www.stibbardchiropractic.com . 519.322.4859 [email protected] www.buzekchiropractic.ca

HEALTHY AGING Active living is important for your health and well bing, no matter what your age is, but it can be vital for older adults! Being active and mobile can help prevent many chronic conditions that can impact you as you age. Here are some ways you can stay active this summer!... 1. Brisk walking - this can help maintain balance and strength 2. Strength training - this can be adapted for your needs through simple exercises like seat leg extensions 3. Mobility work - with age your muscles naturally tighten which can lead to poor posture and back pain. Try stretching to help your body move more freely Here are some exercises to keep limber: Upper Body Stretch: Stand with your feet shoulder width apart and reach both arms straight out in front of you. Clasp your hands together with your thumbs pointing down and your palms facing away from you. Round your shoulders and reach forward. Lower Back Stretch First, lie on your back with your legs together, knees bent, and feet flat on the floor. Try to keep both arms and shoulders flat on the floor throughout the stretch. Keeping knees bent and together, slowly lower both legs to one side as far as you comfortably can. Ankle Stretch Sit securely towards the edge of an armless chair with your legs stretched out in front of you. With your hands holding the sides of the seat of the chair for support, keep your heels on the floor while bending your ankles to point your toes to the sky Gastroc Stretch Hinge forward at your hips. Step forward with your left foot, keeping your back as flat as possible. Reach forward with your left arm and grab the ball of your left foot. For help balancing, you can rest your right hand over your bent right knee. Flex your left foot and gently pull on it with your hand. You should feel a stretching sensation along your calf and up through the back of your thigh. PILLOWS . We now have D-Core Pillows at our office for purchase if you are in need. Sleep is extremely important for your health as many things are restored after a well rested night. Dont let your pillow stop you from getting a good nights sleep! . The D-Core Cervical Support Pillow helps relieve tension, headaches, and neck spasms by providing proper alignment of the neck while sleeping and is commonly used to help treat a variety of conditions affecting the neck and shoul...ders. For back sleeping, a very firm cervical roll supports the neck while the D-shaped center gently cradles the head for better sleep. For side sleeping, the raised side panels help keep the head level for proper alignment of the spine. In order to provide therapeutic benefits and help restore the natural curve of the neck, two very firm cervical rolls provide different support options. Use the smaller neck roll if you are in the adjustment phase or if you prefer slightly less support; use the larger neck roll for maximum support. It may take some time to adjust to this cervical pillow and immediate overuse may actually increase neck pain. For best results, slowly ease into orthopedic correction by alternating between this pillow and your current pillow. Call the office today if its time to change up your pillow! . 226.506.2681 [email protected] www.stibbardchiropractic.com @ Riverside
