Day 3 @amyscreativeside #igquiltfestday4 hands . Five years ago I got flesh eating disease on my middle finger of my right hand. . I almost died.... . I am grateful for my hands. They work pretty well considering what they went through!! . I lost the flesh from the inside of my middle right finger. They took the skin from the back of my ring finger and put it on the inside of my middle finger and then took skin from my hip for the back of my ring finger. . If you look closely you can see the scars and patches. . There are scars on both sides of my hands and a big one on my arm. . Whenever I use my hand I feel the pull of the scars. . My hand doesn’t work the same. . However, I am not really upset about it because of the perspective I have- I have my hand, I have my life. . When I bend my hand and feel the tug and stiffness I am reminded of the gift I have to be alive. . I really am blessed. . I am able to create so many beautiful things with what I have. . I don’t spend a lot of time doing appliqué or other fine stitching because of the stiffness. I am totally okay with that. . Thank goodness for quilt forts and creative kids, I wasn’t sure if I could find a quilt for today’s prompt on @amyscreativeside challenge this month, day 3 quilt before Instagram. . There are actually a few here, but the colourful one is from @thimbleblossoms pattern called wild thing (I am pretty sure) or was it from @crazymomquilts blog? . I made it probably in 2010 for my now 13 year olds ‘big boy bed’. ... . I long armed it myself- it was a valiant effort. . I am so glad I didn’t let perfection stop me. . Courage and dedication got me to where I am now. . If there is something you are struggling with now that you aren’t totally excited about the results despite your efforts- just keep going. . It took Thomas Edison 1000 attempts to create the light bulb- every time you hit the switch, aren’t you glad he didn’t let perfectionism to get in his way? . Just keep going. Day 2 @amyscreativeside #igquiltfest2020 favourite technique is DOODLING- to learn free motion quilting. . I do not consider myself as an artist. . I just love to give myself permission to doodle with thread on quilts. To do this well I learned it’s better to proactive with a pen because unpicking is super annoying.... . Doodling helps creative muscle memory. It also helps fosters creativity. . I kind of look at as a brain massage. . Or like a creative outlet. . Or as a trial run. . Or doodling is a way to help my brain see what the designs could actually look like!! . Do you doodle? Does is scare you?
