Today Gaby and Alina are welcoming a new student to St. Jacobs. At some point in the next 4 months some clients may have the opportunity to meet and work with her. We are a teaching clinic and encourage everyone to consider having a student part of their care as this is how we gain more midwives! Here is a bit about Shelissa: My name is Shelissa and I will be working with the St. Jacobs Midwives as a midwifery learner from January May 2021. I am in the accelerated Midwifery... Education Program and excited to be doing my first midwifery placement with the practice. Prior to entering midwifery program, I worked as a Registered Nurse in an obstetrical care unit. I spend my spare time with my family enjoying biking and going on nature walks. I would like to thank you for welcoming me as a student member of the midwifery team and look forward to working with you in the months to come. See more

Here’s a small snapshot of our team getting their first COVID vaccines last weekend. We are incredibly relieved that this vaccine exists and it’s being distributed in Canada. We can rest a little bit more knowing we have an additional degree of protection beyond all the gear you see us in.

Consider participating in this survey if you’ve had midwifery care and breast/chest fed. The MIFIS is an online survey open to clients, 16 years of age or older, currently receiving midwifery care in Ontario (pregnant or postpartum) or who have been discharged from midwifery care within the last two months (at time of survey completion). The survey will be available online until February 28, 2021. Participation by clients in this survey is both voluntary and anonymous. There is no compensation for individual client participation or support with client recruitment. This study has been reviewed by the Hamilton Integrated Research Ethics Board (HiREB).

Living with the death of your baby - whether they died in utero or in your arms - is complicated, difficult, and painful. So many of us experience this reality ...on a daily basis. If, subsequently, you are able to experience parenthood with a living child, you may feel relief and joy but also waves of additional grief. That was/is our experience. For all of you who grieve for a child, we send strength, love, and endless compassion. We honor those little lives as well as the lives of those who join us afterwards. #nationalrainbowbabyday #rainbowbabies #babyloss #pregnancyloss #infantloss #grievingparents #parenthoodiscomplicated #pregnancyjourney
