Saint James' Anglican Church, Cacouna 30.01.2021

Had some warm weather with rain over Christmas and then back to cold with some snow. Yvan took these photos over the last 24 hours showing almost no snow and then back to snow again after last night. Happy New Years all!

We are looking for prayers, please, for our own Walter Raymond. In his own words: "The basics: they’ve found a large tumour on my right lung, tests are still going on, but it is likely that I’ll have a session with an oncologist in a few weeks. I’m feeling quite optimistic, treatment has made great strides in recent years, and the power of prayer is sure. Love and hugs to all!" We look forward to having Father Walter as usual in Cacouna in 2021. Prayers and messages are welcome but please avoid overwhelming Walter with phone calls!

We are excited to announce that St James won this morning the Prix d'Excellence in the restoration category in the CPRQ awards. The Conseil du Patrimoine Réligieux du Quebec is the group that has provided matching funding for our projects. We are enormously grateful to them and to the whole St James community for the support that has enabled this recognition....

Some terrific winds earlier this week....but the only tree of size that seems to have come down was right across the driveway at St James!

Rev Heather Thomson named to Bishop's University Council The statutes of Bishop’s University provide for a Bishop’s Council that may advise on any question affecting the well-being of the University. It is also mandated to recommend to the Board of Governors candidates for the position of Chancellor and for the naming of major physical assets of the University. Council members are elected for a four-year term. This past July, Principal Michael Goldbloom announced the appointm...ent of Michael Childs, Scott Griffin ’60, DCL ’02, O.C., Yolande James, Paige O’Beirne ’10, Chief Richard O’Bomsawin, Junior Sirivar ’99 and Reverend Heather Thomson to the Bishop’s Council. We are very fortunate that such a distinguished group of people has accepted to serve the University. Reverend Heather Thomson served as campus minister for Bishop’s University and Champlain Regional College for 27 years until her retirement in 2017. Reverend Thomson was ordained Priest in the Anglican Church in 1979. She presently serves as President of the Lennoxville Library and as a member of the Board of Directors of Mental Health Estrie. While on campus Reverend Thomson played an active role in the B.U./C.R.C. Refugee Student Sponsorship Committee.

Here's a video you will want to watch. It was made by Melanie Belliveau-Roy as a project for a film making course. Melanie is Yvan Roy's daughter. The film is a short documentary on Yvan's life, and charts his varied interests as photographer, scuba diver, pilot, film impresario, and all round gentle and sensitive soul. His talents as bellringer are left for a future project, but there are lovely clips of the church, the beach, and the town, many taken in winter. Thanks Melanie! https://www.youtube.com/watch
