Ontario has designated the week beginning on the third Sunday of November as Bullying Awareness and Prevention Week to help promote safe schools and a positive learning environment. During Bullying Awareness and Prevention Week November 15-21, 2020 Ontario students, school staff and parents are encouraged to learn more about bullying and its effect on student learning and well-being. Bullying is defined as a form of repeated, persistent and aggressive behaviour directed at an individual or individuals that is intended to cause (or should be known to cause) fear and distress and/or harm to another person's body, feelings, self-esteem or reputation. Bullying occurs in a context where there is a real or perceived power imbalance.

The Eye See...Eye Learn (ESEL) program is available to children born in 2016 that are in any junior kindergarten program. This ESEL program begins July 1, 2020 and goes through to June 30, 2021. Due to the business disruption of COVID-19, the Eye See...Eye Learn program will be extended to December 31, 2020 for children born in 2015. If required, Eye See...Eye Learn will provide one pair of glasses courtesy of our participating optometrists and corporate partners Plastic Plus and Modern Optical Canada. The frames are fashionable and are made with high quality and impact resistant polycarbonate lenses. The estimated value of the glasses is over $250. Annual comprehensive eye exams are covered by OHIP (health card) up to 19 years of age. Thank you!

Parents we need to talk about sleepovers. Are they a good idea during COVID-19? The truth is that sleepovers are not a good idea. With school having started, ...and kids seeing more of their friends, we are certain that this topic has come up. We know that many kids look forward to having sleepovers with friends and we know that kids are social beings. Your kids are seeing their friends at school or sitting beside them on the bus, so it must be ok to have a sleepover, right? Well, sleepovers involve close contact and sharing of spaces, food and snacks, or even blankets. It also involves allowing people who are not in your social circle into your home in close proximity. This is the perfect storm for spreading COVID-19. Instead of sleepovers, encourage kids to have a virtual dance party, watch a movie together with their friends online, or play outside while physically distancing. If we don’t allow for sleepovers to happen, we will all be able to sleep better at night. See more
