We all have dreams and hopes for the future... There is nothing more hopeful for most families than the anticipation of the birth of a child. And nothing m...ore devastating than the loss of that hope through pregnancy loss or infant death. October 15th is Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness Day - a day to remember the hopes and dreams for a child that did not live. It is a sorrow that many carry unacknowledged by those around them. Remember those known and unknown to you who carry this pain...... 'O God, whose beloved Son took children into his arms and blessed them, give us grace to entrust those we have lost to your never-failing care and love, comfort their families and bring us all to your heavenly kingdom through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.'

Concerning "Spiritual Communion" from the rubrics in the Book of Common Prayer: "But if a man, either by reason of extremity of sickness, or for want of warning in due time to the Curate, or by any other just impediment, do not receive the Sacrament of Christ’s Body and Blood: he shall be instructed that if he do truly repent him of his sins, and stedfastly believe that Jesus Christ hath suffered death upon the Cross for him, and shed his Blood for his redemption, earnestly remembering the benefits he hath thereby, and giving him hearty thanks therefor; he doth eat and drink the Body and Blood of our Saviour Christ profitably to his soul’s health, although he do not receive the Sacrament with his mouth." (BCP pg. 584) The following is a prayer you may wish to use while the congregation receives the body of Christ: A Prayer for Spiritual Communion * My Jesus, I believe that you are truly present in the Blessed Sacrament of the altar. I desire to offer you praise and thanksgiving as I proclaim your resurrection. I love you above all things, and long for you in my soul. Since I cannot now receive you in the sacrament of your Body and Blood, at least come spiritually into my heart. Cleanse and strengthen me with your grace, Lord Jesus and let me never be separated from you. May I live in you, and you in me, in this life and in the life to come. Amen *Based on a prayer by St. Alphonsus Liguori (1696-1787) used at the 2020 Easter celebration at The Episcopal Cathedral Church of Saint Peter and Saint Paul (Washington National Cathedral)

If the weather outside is too frightful, we will postpone the event to the following evening (Sunday, 29 November at 6 p.m.)

In the harvest we are sharing, God's will is done. Happy Harvest Thanksgiving! People are invited to bring fruits and vegetables to decorate the church, which we will then donate to the East Dartmouth Christian Foodbank. This morning we will worship with almost a full church (as many as we can safely accommodate during the pandemic)! Registration was very important this week. Please try to register for Sunday worship by 10 am Thursday if possible. Register by phone, e-mail or on our website. If you are in a social group with other parishioners (one where you are not required to physically distance), please let us know and we can seat you together. This makes more space for others in the church, as you can share a pew. This must be arranged ahead of time.

As we start a new school year in the context of a pandemic, let us offer prayer support for all students, educators and support staff in our schools. Loving God, kindle, we pray, a thirst for knowledge and wisdom in the students who are starting a new school year. Be with the educators who help mold their hearts and minds. Keep all in our schools mindful of health and safety during this pandemic, as we show our care and concern for others through physical distancing. May all of their efforts bring forth good fruit. In Jesus name we pray. Amen.

For more than 1,500 years, the Bible was used to support and justify slavery. As recently as our life times, racists used the Bible to justify segregation. As r...ecently as this month, homophobic people used the Bible to justify bigotry. This isnt the message of Jesus, and its not the God I follow. But its common in the mainstream of Christianity. Concerning "Spiritual Communion" from the rubrics in the Book of Common Prayer: "But if a man, either by reason of extremity of sickness, or for want of warning in due time to the Curate, or by any other just impediment, do not receive the Sacrament of Christs Body and Blood: he shall be instructed that if he do truly repent him of his sins, and steadfastly believe that Jesus Christ hath suffered death upon the Cross for him, and shed his Blood for his redemption, earnestly remembering the benefits he hath thereby, and giving him hearty thanks therefor; he doth eat and drink the Body and Blood of our Saviour Christ profitably to his souls health, although he do not receive the Sacrament with his mouth." (BCP pg. 584) Our bishop had indicated that the public health restrictions imposed during the COVID-19 pandemic qualify as a "just impediment." The following is a prayer you may wish to use while the congregation receives the body of Christ: A Prayer for Spiritual Communion * My Jesus, I believe that you are truly present in the Blessed Sacrament of the altar.
