A reminder on this Giving Tuesday that St Marys Curling is currently accepting donations to help cover off some unavoidable expenses this season. Your donation, made through the National Sport Trust Fund, will be tax deductible. For any donation over $20, you will receive one of these very sharp iron-on St Marys Curling patches next season. For any donation over $400, we will engrave your name on a rock handle before the start of the next season. Space is limited for this and... will be first-come, first-served. We are happy to accept donations of any amount, and every little bit will help ensure the future of curling in St. Marys. Please click on the following link and select "St Marys Curling" from the drop down menu to make your donation. A tax receipt will be provided by NSTF after completion. https://forms.logiforms.com//74769_1745/345060/page1.html

Dear St Marys Curlers, The executive has spent countless hours going over ideas, protocols, financials, and survey results from our membership to determine if it would be possible to hold a season this year. Also working with guidance and input from the Town of St Marys and the Huron Perth Public Health Unit to help determine what a curling season would look like, if it was possible. The survey that was sent out last week was completed by roughly 90% of our 2019-2020 members... and was used as the main gauge for determining our season. Unfortunately less than 40% indicated that they would be returning for a new season this year. With such low numbers, the additional loss of bonspiel and event revenue, as well as the need to prepare for future infrastructure updates, the board deeply regrets that it is not financially viable to offer a curling season for 2020-2021. Further information around this decision will be presented at our Virtual Annual General Meeting scheduled for October 26 at 7:00pm. More details about the AGM will be provided closer to the date. We are also working on a plan for a possible outdoor winter event to be held sometime in January or February and will keep you updated as that progresses. The board is extremely appreciative for all the work from Club Manager Jason Clarke over the last many months to assist in developing plans and in decision making. Many thanks to Gord Moylan for his tireless work in our club treasurer role, and helping the board to understand the various financial implications from the potential plans we examined. A large thank you goes out to our entire board for their many hours of meetings, contemplation and planning. Lastly, and most importantly, thank you to our amazing members. It is going to be a difficult year for me not seeing all of you, and I know that this will be a common sentiment for most of us. Please take care and stay healthy and safe. We are so very much looking forward to a return to curling in the fall of 2021. Sincerely, Ian Morton St. Marys Curling Association President

Dear St. Marys Curlers, With this ever-changing COVID-19 situation, we need to adapt and make difficult decisions in order to be socially responsible and protect our members, our community and those people beyond. We have many members who are part of the vulnerable demographic as well as at-risk individuals. We cannot guarantee the safety of our members if the club remains open for curling, and it does not make sense to continue with club operations if it puts our members at ...risk of contracting the virus. Thus, consistent with the Ontario Health Unit's closure of many public venues and events, we feel strongly that it is being proactive and socially responsible to cease activities within the club effectively immediately. Please connect with the people you play with to ensure they are aware of this news. We want to thank all our membership for their understanding and for putting the health of others before the game of curling. We also want to congratulate all curlers on an exceptional year at the club. We have had many memorable moments, very successful events, and a smooth transition to different management of the club. The board is so appreciative of everyone in this club, whether you are just a once a week social curler, or are curling three times a week competitively, you are what makes this place so amazing. Thank you for your wonderful spirit of fair play, and your drive to make our club the absolute best. We would also like to thank our ice-makers, conveners and many, many volunteers who have contributed to a wonderful season, and a strong club. Have a great off-season, and we look forward to continuing the great curling and great momentum we have built this year. More details will follow in the coming week in regards to when you can collect your belongings still at the club. All the best to you and yours, St. Marys Curling Association Board of Directors
