It has been announced that Rev. Canon Alex Parsons has been appointed as Executive Archdeacon for the Diocese of Saskatoon, effective immediately. Reverend Karen Walter has been appointed Interim Priest for St. Matthews for an undetermined period. We congratulate both as they take on their new roles in serving God and the needs of the Saskatoon Diocese and St. Matthews Parish.

The Collect For Labor Day Almighty God, you have so linked our lives one with another that all we do affects, for good or ill, all other lives: So guide us in t...he work we do, that we may do it not for self alone, but for the common good; and, as we seek a proper return for our own labor, make us mindful of the rightful aspirations of other workers, and arouse our concern for those who are out of work; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen. (Book of Common Prayer, 1979, p. 261) See more

St. Matthews is taking baby steps to get back to reinstating our Sunday services. Until the protocols around handling the Covid-19 virus change to allow for less stringent rules regarding social distancing, Eucharist and refreshments following church, we are taking things slowly. If you plan to attend in person, please let Canon Alex know (306-381-5795) or leave a message on the church answering machine. There is currently a limited number allowed to attend, so we advis...e you to register your intention to join the service to make sure we are in compliance with the current regulations. Another option is joining the Zoom service if you have internet. If you have not already given your e-mail address to Karen Clarke, please send your e-mail address to Carolyn ([email protected]), and we will add you to the internet notification group to keep you informed of upcoming services and other information. A Trinity Sunday message from Reverend Canon Alex: What is God like? It is a fair question to ask and a difficult one to answer. In an attempt to explain we, as Christians, proclaim, worship and see God as Father, Son and Holy Spirit always together as a holy triumvirate. The Trinity. Yet this threeness is a complex doctrine, one that is hard to comprehend, and even harder to explain, as a fundamental part of Christian theology. Although we speak of the Triune God in liturgy...Continue reading

In support of peaceful anti racism marches, we are reminded of promises made at our baptism.

"And now, Father, send us out to do the work you have given us to do, to love and serve you as faithful witnesses of Christ our Lord." (Rite II Post Communion Prayer, BCP, p.366)

Greetings, everyone! Sometimes during this time of Pandemic its easy to lose track of days and dates. Having to self-isolate during the period from Lent through the season of Pentecost is saddening. There are times of solemn remembrance (Good Friday) ,and joyful festivals, marking Resurrection, Ascension and Pentecost, as well as the celebration of new life (Rogationtide) and the arrival of Springtime. Marking and celebrating these times of the church year give great me...aning to our spiritual lives. I hope you are able to view the services that our Diocese has put on line. Many of these can be accessed on You Tube, as well as the Dioceses web page. It is times like these that we need to seek ways to keep us all well grounded in our faith and the belief of a better tomorrow. The warm sunshine and new growth are an encouraging sign. I hope you are all staying well and using a mask when needing to do your errands. Rev. Canon Alex is always as close as your phone, and would be very happy to hear from you! When we are able to assemble together again, it will be a very joyful time! Lets pray it comes soon. See more

As warden at St. Matthews, its my task to remind our church family about supporting the operations of our ministry even while the church building is not available for worship. Id like to thank all of our members who realize this and are sending/delivering their offertory to our Treasurer each month that we are unable to physically meet together in worship. We are moving closer to the time when we will be back together in what will be our new normal. I pray for all of our members that the day will come soon and that we will all come through this time of self isolation unscathed, and strengthened in a new appreciation of all the wonderful blessings of this life, family, friends, and all the bounties we continually receive. Thanks be to God! Alleluia!

Every Mothers Day at St. Matthews we light candles in loving memory of those of our mothers and grandmothers who have passed on and pause for a prayer and moment of remembrance. We also like to honour the mothers among us, as well as the women who have influenced and mentored us during our lives. We hope you will light a candle for your beloved mother and grandmothers on Sunday, and offer a prayer of thanksgiving as well. St. Matthews wishes all mothers a wonderful Mothers Day this Sunday.

Today is commonly known as Star Wars Day, because of the phrase May the Force Be With You, parodied into May the fourth be with you. A little levity for a time of uncertainty.

April 23 is the feast of Saint George, soldier, martyr, patron of England, and by legend, a dragon slayer.

This is the truth, and is becoming more real as the weeks pass. Lets pray that well be greeting each other soon whether in the sanctuary, on line or on the phone. Remember that each weekday evening you can access on You Tube evening prayer served by Bishop Chris and others of our Dioceses clergy, compline, as well as Sunday morning prayer or Eucharist. These are all available 24/7 so you may view them when convenient.
