This morning the Bank of Canada announced the decision to maintain its benchmark overnight rate at 1.75%. The Bank of Canada still maintains an interest in increasing rates in the future but has taken a more cautious and slower approach. Recent data suggests that the slowdown in the global economy has been more pronounced than the bank predicted, and it appears the economy will be weaker in the first half of 2019 than the Bank projected.
