How to prevent Lyme disease There are several ways to reduce the risk of Lyme disease. Avoiding areas where ticks can be found is the first step. Ticks are ...often found hiding in wooded areas and long grass. Although, they can also be found in your own backyard, so be sure to keep your grass cut short and do a thorough check of your pet often! There are many reliable tick preventative products such as monthly and bi-monthly chews as well as topical applications available by prescription at the clinic. You can also get an annual Lyme vaccination for your furry friend! If you are interested in the Lyme vaccine or have any questions regarding which prevention would be best suited for your furry family member, please give us a call at 204-261-7376. We look forward to hearing from you! See more

How to safely remove ticks from your furry friend If you and your furry friend enjoy spending time outdoors, it’s a good idea to thoroughly check for creepy cr...awlies everyday. You can start by running your fingers slowly over your dog’s entire body. Also check between their toes, under the armpits and inside the ears as ticks like moist areas. If you do find a tick that has latched onto your dog grab a pair of tweezers or a tick remover. If using tweezers, grasp the tick as close to your dog’s skin as possible (without pinching your dog, of course!) pull the tick out in a straight, steady motion. When using a tick remover gently press the remover against your pet’s skin near the tick, and slide the notch of the remover under the tick pulling it free. If you feel that part of the tick may have been left behind, it’s best to have it looked at by a veterinarian as that may lead to an infection. To dispose of the tick you can deposit it into isopropyl alcohol. If you are unsure how to safely remove the tick, please feel free to stop in the clinic and one of our team members will be happy to assist you. You can even bring the tick into the vet clinic and we can identify it for you. If it is a tick of concern it can be sent to a lab to be further studied. See more
