For we northern folks, there is something special about the Winter Solstice. This day marks the turn of the season, the moment when, in tiny steps, daylight begins to lengthen again, and with it, the certainty that no matter what the new season brings, there will be growth and warmth. Happy Winter Solstice. Wishing you all moments to turn your face to the sun, and feel its warmth. #nature #wintersolstice #farmersmarket #WeAreManitoba

WHY BUY AT THE MARKET? Good question! We're all trying our best to support Manitoba's small businesses right now. Here's why the market is a great place to do just that! The market is a not-for-profit cooperative. That means that unlike stores, the market itself doesn't profit from the sales of the local producers who sell at our market The small business owners who sell at our market pay a small weekly booth fee. That fee pays for the costs involved in running the market... like staffing, promotions, building maintenance, etc. The vendors keep all the remaining money they make. That means more of your dollars go directly to them. Stores may pay the producers as little as 40-60% of the value of each item sold. Our vendors are members of our cooperative. They get a say in how the market runs and can be on our volunteer Board of Directors. Our market supports over 200 small businesses over the course of a single year. ONLY local businesses who make, bake and/or grow their own products may sell at our market. We even have an inspection process to ensure our market is local-only. SO...when you shop at the market, you can know your dollars are going exactly where they need to go: to the small Manitoba businesses run by our neighbours, friends, and community members (swipe through the photos here and you'll recognize some market friends). Manitobans supporting Manitobans. What could be better than that! Our market is deemed an essential service, and is open Saturdays and Sundays 10-2. Or you can order 24/7 from our Online Market (www.stnorbertfarmersmarket.ca/online). #WeAreManitoba #LocalLivesHere #Manitoba #Winnipeg #supportlocal #supportsmallbusiness See more

Overall dish inspired by @chefmelissaking's recent Instagram story. Pappardelle, buratta, parmigiano-reggiano procured from @denardiwpg. Locally-grown sweet corn from @stnorbertmarket. Rainbow chard grown by @almost_urban_vegetables. Olive oil from @frescolio. Hand-thrown pasta plate by @lot.ceramics.

Want to know a great way to support local and the market, too?? Thanksgiving is just around the corner, and what better way to celebrate than to support local producers AND the market with our completely local Thanksgiving Dinner Box? Our farmers and food producers get paid in full for their products (cause this is a tough year, and they need all the support we can give them), and there's a little extra in there to support the market. If we sell all the available boxes, the f...unds raised will pay for the extra staff we need due to COVID for a full month! We've been fortunate to receive some funding for staff through the summer, but those grants are run-out now. So every little bit helps! Purchase through our Online Market linked in our profile (just look under St. Norbert Farmers' Market in the suppliers list). Meat and no meat options available. Orders must be in by 8 pm Thursday. Thanks, as always, for supporting local and keeping your dollars in our Manitoba economy. #thanksgiving #LocalLivesHere #WeAreManitoba See more
