The price of plants lately has definitely brought out the worst in people and has given scammers an opportunity to steal people's money and break their little plant hearts. Let's talk about wet sticks. This is how it usually goes... you are seriously considering selling a kidney to get that dream plant, but cuttings are way too expensive for your budget. Then, you come across someone selling chunks of your dream plants stem for only a hundred bucks. The excited panic plant p...urchasing begins... STOP!!! Do your research before purchasing. These leafless stems are often referred to as 'chonks' or 'wet sticks' in the plant world. There are so many risks associated with purchasing and propagating them that we could write a novel. We will name just a few here: They are way more vulnerable to rot. If you have one node to work with you might be SOL. They are improperly cut too close to the node (if it rots say bye to your node) They are often sold without nodes - no node = no chance of propagation Scammy scammers paint variegation on stems in photos (yup ) You will have to wait YEARS until that little wet stick turns into a lush plant. All around more challenging to propagate - not for the faint of heart We aren't saying never buy one, or that you will never succeed in propagating one.
