Flu Myth #2: The flu shot will give me the flu. FALSE! The vaccine contains a dead virus that is not able to infect you. However, the flu vaccine can take up to 2 weeks to work so it is possible to contract the flu before you get the shot (or even right after)! Additionally, the vaccine only contains 4 different strains of the flu virus so it is possible to get infected by a different strain.... BUT you are still more protected than someone who didn’t get the shot! And year after year you build up immunity to more and more strains of the flu virus! Another thing to remember is that the symptoms of the flu and a cold can be similar but influenza is more severe. A lot of people get these two mixed up and think they have the flu when they just have a cold!

Flu Myth #1: I'm young and healthy I don't need a flu shot. Getting the flu isn't even a big deal! FALSE! Even healthy children and adults can become seriously ill with influenza - you may not be able to go to work or school for up to 7 days! In addition, you might infect others who have a high risk of complications from influenza. Unfortunately, people are still dying from the flu every year. It is one of the top 10 leading causes of death in Canada!

A lot of you have been asking if we will be giving flu shots and the answer is YES! They will be coming a bit later this year but they will be available in the pharmacy by the first week of November! We will be posting reminders and flu shot FAQs in the meantime
