Working at a computer can create neck and shoulder tightness...especially if you are improvising in a home office! Try this thoracic extension stretch to improve shoulder, neck and upper back mobility. Better yet, you can schedule a virtual care session from the comfort of your office at home or work. Our clinicians will prescribe an exercise program that can be done right at your desk. This service is covered by most insurance plans.
With your safety in mind, we are essential and open! Follow this link to see how our profession has adapted to delivering care during the COVID 19 pandemic. https://causes.discoverphysiotherapy.ca/whats-changing-to-/

Exercise is still important despite the COVID lockdown. Just be sure to practice physical distancing with people who are not a member of your own household. Check out this blog on the physical benefits of good old fashioned tobogganing

Many people have enjoyed the game of golf during COVID 19. Now that it's colder doesn't mean that the season is over. Remember to warm up the key muscle groups in the hips, shoulders and torso to maintain a healthy golf swing in cooler weather. For example, perform 10-20 leg swings - forward and back as well as side to side. This can be done while holding on to a bench or golf cart.
Looking forward to lunch today! #locallove
As we move into a new season and a fresh start, we are open and here to help you move better and feel better! Team sports are on the back burner, but some of you might have taken up running. Check out Meg's blog about shin pain: https://www.lifemark.ca//what-causing-my-shin-pain-and-how
It is with cautious excitement that we announce the resumption of some in-person care in our St. Marys location! Please give us a call for more information. We understand that not everyone will be comfortable with or able to attend in-person care. Virtual care will continue to be an option in this case. #physio #chiro #motionislotion

Exercise is medicine! Let us count the ways....reason number 7: Healthy hearts. We all know that exercise improves the strength of your muscles. Don't forget that the heart is one of the most important muscles in our body...working all day long to circulate blood, oxygen and nutrients throughout our body. 20-30 minutes of moderate to vigorous activity per day strengthens the heart with the added benefit of improving circulation and reducing blood pressure. #motionislotion #physiocanhelp
Exercise is medicine...let us count the ways! Reason number 6: Connective tissue: You likely knew that exercise strengthens muscle but did you know that it also improves the strength and stability of connective tissue such as tendon and ligament? This reduces symptoms of tendonitis and provides support for vulnerable joints such as wrists, knees and shoulders. Exercise is an evidence-based treatment for arthritis, repetitive strain injuries and tendonitis. ... #motionislotion #physiocanhelp #athletictherapy #virtualcare
Exercise is medicine...let us count the ways! Reason # 5: Bone density Weight bearing aerobic exercise and resistance training with weights will preserve or increase bone density. This is particularly important for the management and prevention of osteoporosis - a condition most likely to affect post menopausal females. At this time many of us have altered our schedules and reduced our activity levels. Despite this, try to continue with a routine of regular physical acti...vity for all the benefits that exercise brings. Despite these challenging times our clinicians continue to treat clients old and new. We continue to provide safe, supervised exercise to suit your needs and your home environment. Happy Friday! Exercise is medicine! Let us count the ways.... Reason # 4: Lung function! We all know that respiratory illness is the enemy right now. But exercise is our friend when it comes to the health of our lungs and the function of our respiratory system. 20-30 minutes of moderate to vigorous activity is sufficient to elevate your rate of breathing and blood flow to the heart and lungs.. Just like muscles, lungs get stronger with exercise. As well, exercise imp...roves the ability of the body to deliver oxygen to body tissues such as muscles and nerves. Last, exercise makes our lungs expand fully and helps to move debris out of the respiratory system. Breathe deeply my friends. #motionislotion #inthistogether #physiocanhelp #virtualcare
Exercise is medicine...let us count the ways! Reason number 3: Posture Have you developed a stiff neck and shoulders since switching to a work from home office? Here are some ideas to combat the effects of poor posture that come from hunching over a laptop. PS: Soup cans work when dumbbells aren't available!!... https://www.physiotec.org/ Let us know if you need a solution specific to you! #virtualcare #motionislotion #exerciseismedicine

Exercise is medicine! Let us count the ways.... Reason number 1: Endorphins! These chemicals are released by your brain when you exercise. They have many benefits: pain relief, improved immune function and a feeling of well-being that combats anxiety and depression. Sounds like just what we need right now, doesn’t it? It is a challenging time to find order and routine. We are still here to help you and can provide prescribed exercise specific to your body and your ne...eds. Urgent Dollars needed to meet increased local food bank requests Ten-day fundraising blitz for FOOD BANKS starts today! Please give: https://give.uni...tedway.ca/donate/WSTRAT-UWPH Donations will be leveraged by the Huron County Food Bank Distribution Center and provide added resources so they can use their bulk purchasing power to ensure food banks across Huron and Perth, and the people that need them, get through difficult times. Individuals and families who suddenly find themselves struggling need to know there is a safety net to catch them, to make sure their health and the health of the people they care about is the priority, not having to worry where their next meal is coming from.
