Happy New Year, to you all!Happy New Year, to you all!

Stonewall Counselling Center 12.12.2020

Now that Christmas is behind us and we’re staring a new year in its face. Often times we take the opportunity with the start of a new year to be in search of a new you. (Cue last years list of unchecked New Years resolutions.) Often times those boxes go unchecked because we’re looking at how we can change ourselves in a way that doesn’t align with the way we were created to be. So for instance, if I were to put on my list this year that I want to be more spontaneous tha...t will just go against who I am as a person and my disposition of being a planner and my life functioning better with a plan; because flying by the seat of my pants makes me stressed and anxious. However, I can work on being more adaptable when plans fall through or if there are last minute changes needed (which I’ve learned big lessons there in 2020). So when you’re thinking about ways you want to grow this year, don’t create more stress and chaos by changing who you are. Be you. Just find ways that you can grow in your already fascinating personality and disposition! See more

Merry Christmas, to all of you that I have had a privilege to journey with this year and to those I have not yet met! This time of year is not a joyous time for everyone - especially with the latest lockdowns and losses. We all may be more than ready to leave 2020 behind in the dust never to look back. And if any of you have sat with me in therapy you know I talk a lot about the here and now - sharing the raw, honest thoughts and feelings about what's happening in the momen...t. However, It isn’t a bad thing to reflect back on the years and months. It allows you to see how far you’ve come or to shift your perspective if needed. I hope you all can find time with yourself or with your family at the end of this year to think or talk about the little or big obstacles you’ve overcome; or perhaps the obstacles you’re still stuck on and begin the here and now process of how to overcome those with some goals. You are capable and worthy to be the best version of yourself! Merry Christmas and Happy New year! - Erica Hildebrand, CCPCPrc See more

I saw this and it is a great way of categorizing where you are at in your mindset. Are you living in the past, present or future? Often times when I’m working with my clients they speak in past or future tense. If it’s the past they bring up it’s often enveloped with regrets and a lot of should’ve and could’ve statements. If a person is speaking about their future in a negative way it’s often laden with what if’s or I can’t statements. This is why I work with clients to... get out of dwelling in the past and get back into the here and now so their futures are set up for better success. One day at a time is such a cliche statement - but it’s so necessary. If you focus too much on the past failures and hardships or too much on the futures uncertainties you miss out on the joys, the gifts, the lessons and the wonder of what’s in store for you today. You can start today living in the here and now! See more
