Tactile math, teamwork, and the thousand cube = a wonderful way to begin the week! #montessori #stoneycreek #handsonlearning
Something to light up your morning (and the future!).
Another important training for our educator toolbox, communicating with children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), because removing barriers to education is important to us! Many thanks to ML from the Ron Joyce Children’s Health Centre for facilitating this training! @mcmasterchildrens #montessori #hamont #stoneycreek
We are very grateful to a parent volunteer who brought in this trunk from a 90-year-old tree to keep our little friends company on the playground! #naturalplay #montessori #stoneycreek
First Aid training on the school’s playground was awesome, thanks to the incredibly engaging @_ashley.muir_ ! #firstaidtraining #stoneycreek #hamont @ Stoney Creek Montessori School
Thrilled to add anti-racism pedagogy to our educator toolbox and to begin the school year with necessary reflection and introspection. #antiracism #hamont #montessori #stoneycreek #culturallyresponsiveteaching #culturallyrelevantpedagogy @ Stoney Creek Montessori School
There are many who hold, as I do, that the most important period of life is not the age of university studies, but the first one, the period from birth to the age of six. For that is the time when man’s intelligence itself, his greatest implement, is being formed. But not only his intelligence; the full totality of his psychic powers. - Maria Montessori in The Absorbent Mind #montessori #casa #stoneycreek #hamont
The satisfaction which they find in their work has given them a grace and ease like that which comes from music. - Dr. Maria Montessori in The Discovery of The Child . . . Grateful for a learning-filled summer with our students. We have put numerous precautions in place to keep them safe, maintained low classroom numbers, and redesigned our materials to continue to offer natural surfaces and the core Montessori learning materials. The work of education during #covid19 is i...ntense but the joy of our students makes it all worthwhile. . . . #montessori #montessoritoddler #montessorihamont #hamont #stoneycreek See more

A useful resource as we start preparing our students for their return to school. It's not too early to begin this process with our September cohort either. https://www.unicef.org//supporting-your-childs-mental-heal
Socially-distanced goodbyes with our little friends as the school year draws to a close. We are so proud of how these little people have weathered the COVID-storm. Stay safe! See you all again soon! . . . .... Many thanks to Lu of @photagonist for helping us to creatively mark the end of this academic year with beautiful mementos like these pictures. . #hamont #stoneycreek #montessorimoment @ Stoney Creek, Ontario See more
Happy Monday from our virtual learners!
Let the children be free; encourage them; let them run outside when it is raining; let them remove their shoes when they find a puddle of water; and, when the grass of the meadows is damp with dew, let them run on it and trample it with their bare feet; let them rest peacefully when a tree invites them to sleep beneath its shade; let them shout and laugh when the sun wakes them in the morning as it wakes every living creature that divides its day between walking and sleeping.... . . - Dr. Maria Montessori in The Discovery of The Child . . #montessori #montessoritoddler #natureeducation #hamont #stoneycreek See more
Making yogurt parfaits with Miss J and other toddler friends is the best way to start the week! #toddlermontessori #montessori #stoneycreek #covideducation
Princeton Montessori School in Princeton, NJ, has created an inspirational 2-minute video to show how Montessori schools have adapted to be leaders in the ‘new’ style of learning. Head of school, Michelle Morrison, explains, "We really wanted to get something out there that spoke to how prepared Montessori kids are for working at home, as they have been developing independence, self-reliance, love of learning, and adaptability every day as part of their Montessori education."
Our toddler friends cannot participate in our Distance Learning Program with the same level of interactivity like our CASA friends but they are just as important! So in an effort to maintain our connections with our toddlers during #covid19, our teachers did socially-distanced visits. The students were surprised, excited, and happy! . . We can’t wait for the day that we can welcome you all into our school again, but until then, we’re here for you at a distance! .... . #montessori #montessoritoddler #hamont #stoneycreek #teachersarethebest @ Stoney Creek, Ontario See more
Maria Montessori was selected as Time Magazine’s series, Woman of the year for 1931, just in time for International Women’s Day. One of the first female physicians in Italy, Montessori developed early-childhood teaching methods that made the student a respected collaborator and independent thinker, rather than the submissive pupils of yore. In 1931, she trained teachers through her Association Montessori Internationale and hosted Mahatma Gandhi, who supported the use of her methods in India. Her approach has educated generations. https://time.com/100-women-of-the-year/

This International Montessori Week, we celebrate the unique ways in which children carve out their sense of the world and their independence within it. This student is unencumbered by mobility limitations. She independently makes her way across the classroom to the shelves or to the washroom. She pulls herself up to select her materials or wash her hands. She returns her dishes to the tray after each meal. She gathers her clothing and tries to dress herself before outdoor play. She inspires us every single day. The child seeks for independence by means of work; an independence of body and mind. Little he cares about the knowledge of others; he wants to acquire a knowledge of his own, to have experience of the world, and to perceive it by his own unaided efforts." - Maria Montessori, The Absorbent Mind.

The true joy of a Montessori environment is when the older children, who have learned to be capable, then begin to show the younger children how to develop that capability. . No one can be free unless he is independent. Therefore, the first active manifestations of the child’s individual liberty must be so guided that through this activity he may arrive at independence. - Maria Montessori . .... . #selfcare #montessoritoddler #hamont #followthechild See more
