New Brunswick is the only province that charges double property tax on apartment buildings. That means higher rents for tenants and less investment in NB. It's time stop this unfair tax. www.stopthedoubletax.ca
An apartment building owner in Saint John pays nearly 50% more property taxes than the same building in Halifax, according to the NBREA (New Brunswick Real Estate Association). That tax gets passed on to tenants, meaning New Brunswick's double tax hurts the 250,000 people who rent in this province. Let's stop this unfair tax.

The NBREA (New Brunswick Real Estate Association) is advocating for common sense fixes to property tax assessments and ending the unfair double tenant tax in New Brunswick. Read their commentary published in the Telegraph Journal:
Today, the Progressive Conservative party announced that, if it formed government, it would reduce the double property tax rate by 50 per cent over 4 years, with its total elimination being their final goal. Earlier in the election campaign, the People's Alliance party and the Green Party committed to eliminating this unfair double tax. We are grateful that these three political parties understand the importance of this issue, and how double property tax is hurting the 250,000 New Brunswickers who rent as well as discouraging investment in the province. We are hopeful that a similar commitment will be included in the Liberal Platform when it is released.
